Ahhh...

I still believe in innocent until proven guilty. Don't you?
I also don't believe in setting alleged criminals free until the verdict is in. Don't you?

As has already been noted, it was at least unethical. And that should be enough. Furthermore, I believe it to be illegal based on the Supreme Court decisions regarding this issue.

This is a complicated free speech issue, but I believe the rulins so far run something like this:

"Students in public schools don't have the same rights as adults, but neither do they leave their constitutional protections at the schoolhouse gate, as the court said in a landmark speech-rights ruling from Vietnam era".

The court has limited what students can do in subsequent cases, saying they may not be disruptive or lewd or interfere with a school's basic educational mission.

Or, most recently, promote illegal or dangerous activities.

None of the rulings to date allow a school to restrict student initiated religious free speech either through prior restraint or after the fact.

And she is not a criminal neither has she done anything wrong.
That would depend on her intent, which is unknown. If she intentionally planned to deceive her school officials, do you still think she did nothing wrong?

Just to begin by answering another post the Supreme Court has never ruled this speech to be unconstitutional.

What she has done is no different then going into another country knowing they do not allow the gospel. what the school attempted to do is against God and against the law.

How unethical do you assume missionaries are who go into foriegn countries under cover?

These are the United States where we have freedom of religion, not Iraq. Look, Timmy, if you want to go around deceiving people, go ahead. That's just not the way that I choose to live.

Besides, a school certainly has the right to censor speech, just like your parents did when you lived under their roof and just like your employer does in performing your job duties.

How have I decieved anyone?

I realize that folks like you do not want the gospel preached in public. But it is incorrect that this girl could not legally do it. And when the school loses the law suit as many schools in this situation already have it will be obvious.

Certainly what she did was legal. It was also unethical.

You did not answer my question. How have I decieved anyone?

And how is what she did nay different than a missionary going into an area under cover?

I didn't say you have deceived anyone. I wrote: "Look, Timmy, if you want to go around deceiving people, go ahead."

But, regardless, in the interest of Christian fellowship I apologize and withdraw the remark.

It is different because we have freedom of religion in these United States.

So if a school official illegally supresses student speech protected by the constitution which has been proved in a court of law that makes it ethical to do so because we have free speech?

Sounds like quite a bit of irony to me. Or maybe it is just hypocracy.

A government school district has the right to determine the speech used at one of its events.

By the way if there are any moderators still around - what happened to the 3 page rule in this forum. :)
