our youth are doing a free lunch and banquet for all active & retired military.

I think it's going to be a hit.

We can't serve liquor, though. THey'll have to go to Applebee's afterward for that. :D

That's awesome! One of the kids saw this and wants to go, but I somehow doubt they meant the kids can eat too.

If it’s that exciting, I’ll buy you one earlier.
But I can’t afford to buy one for everyone.
Its not just a free meal - rather Veterans getting together - we are a brotherhood
In fact, there is a local County Veterans Center - and bi-monthly they have a free breakfast.

Ben, just curious - did you serve?

No sir. But I appreciate very much the people who have and do serve.

I take advantage of the "special treatment" offers. I park in the veterans parking spot at Loews. I eat the free breakfast at Denny's. But I dislike standing in Church when they honor veterans, because the honor has been earned by combat veterans. I had the honor of being related to several combat vets from WWI, WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. And several more were my friends, including a guy who flew in WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam!

But a wall is not less important during peace even if it is not appreciated as much as it is during war. Thank you for holding up that barrier of protection.

Yes, although I served during war (1965-67) I was NOT assigned to combat, and served in West Germany, transferring others toward combat assignments. Nothing to write home about.

It’s a job that someone had to do. It’s just as necessary.

1 Samuel 30:24
For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike.

Yes, those assigned to the rear guard were still somewhat in harm's way. If the front lines give way, those in the back must also run for their lives.

But I was in the way, way back. :)

Van, I was also in Germany - first arrived in 1971
But I was in TWO armies!
1) the US Army
2) the Lords Army!

Lots to write home about. In fact I wrote a letter to my home church and signed as:

Your missionary to Germany at Government expense!
Had many opportunism in the local Baptist church I had joined!

My point exactly, my service was honorable, but like someone escaping from a fire.

I did. I was sent to Oakland Army Base for shipment to Viet Nam. But the plane landed in Germany!
When the other guys in my unit asked me if I prayed that we would all get diverted. My answer - "No, I just prayed for myself - and I figured you would all go with me!
