VIPs at church services

Have you ever had any VIPs attend any of your church services? If so, how was it handled? Just wondering. The reason I'm asking is that we had a prime minister attend a few weeks ago. Interesting to say the least.

Actually, it was Prime Minister Golding of Jamaica and he sat on the front row next to the Ambassador & others -- with secret service behind him. He was in town and happened to worship with us a few Sundays back. [We have several Jamaican families in our church, in addition to our Jamaican pastor & wife.]

Our senior pastor introduced him & the PM gave a short greeting from the people of Jamaica. Then our pastor had a short prayer asking God's blessings upon Jamaica. That was about it. The PM did stay after service to greet anyone who wanted to meet him before being whisked away in one of those big SUVs with dark windows.

We had the president of the dairy league visit one time but nobody knew he was such a highly-placed feller. There's a state assemblyman who comes now and again. I had him help take up the offering so he could get a little "facetime" with the folks. Then we have this multi-millionaire feller that runs the rural phone company. He owns a backhoe so we let him dig up the old septic system when it quit. Other than that we just treat folks as folk.

I'd like to believe our "prime minister" shows up every Sunday.

Politicians of all stripes showed up at a large church I attended in the suburbs of Philadelphia. The pastor always had them stand and he introduced them. He suggested we talk to them after service to see if we should vote for them. They were never asked to speak.

I have attended services where people who were deemed important by the world were present. Not a big todo. But it seems man tries to lift man higher than man ought to be.

I remember several years ago when Virginia Governor (and now US Senator) John Warner attented Jerry Falwell's church and brought his then-wife Elizabeth Taylor. Falwell had the governor and his wife stand, he introduced them, and they were applauded. He was criticized for this, but I thought it was completely appropriate.
