Walk the Line

I went out and bought the DVD yesterday. I tried to get a copy the day it came out but our Wall Mart was sold out (unless I wanted to pay more for the collector’s edition).

I was somewhat disappointed. I thought it well acted and Reese was definitely Oscar worthy but to stop the story when they did was I thought premature. There was a lot more living in those remaining years.

I Vivian’s portrayal was believable. He was the one running around on her while she tried to hold the family together. That Rosanne and the other girls may have different memories of what it was like is also not that surprising. I also agree with those who commented on the lack of mention of Johnny’s faith.

I really liked the scene where the shopkeeper gives June the what for because of her divorce. I thought it did an excellent job of capturing that mix of emotions trying to please her fans and still living in the real world. I also liked Jerry Lee Lewis’ comment that they were all going to hell because of the music they were playing. I would have liked to see more of that conflict of Christian performers in a secular market reconciling their personal beliefs with their chosen lifestyle.

I enjoyed it but will probably not keep the DVD.

 

I heard that Joaquin and Reese did all of their own vocals and I believe it. I watched the movie and was thinking that he did a pretty good job and sounded a lot like Johnny. Then the closing credits came on with the real voice. Joaquin did good but there will never be another voice like the man in black.

Now I have to go get out my cds and listen to them again.

 

Sat in a movie theater in a truck stop in So. Cal and got as far as his group playing for the first time in an audition. Went back to my truck to sleep. I wasn't impressed to that point. I don't remember R. Witherspoon though. We might rent the DVD this week end.

 

Wow Witherspoon was terrific. Pretty good movie but she came out as a top notch actress in this film, IMHO.

 

I rented the movie. I was so bored that half-way through I turned it off. Just not in the mood for adulterous love stories that night, I guess.

Too bad. You could have learned a lot from that adulterer.

Aaron...I watched the DVD last Monday and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought the movie sorta glorified adultry. I've always been a huge Johnny Cash music fan, but the movie came off a little sour in that aspect to me.

Did anyone see Chris Daughtry on "American Idol" this week sing "Walk the Line"??? What a great arrangement and performance.

 

Never mind. I didn't realize to whom I was responding. There's nothing you could have learned from that adulterer.

 

Let me rephrase the question then, what did you learn from Walk the Line?

 

I to am/was a Johnny Cash fan. When I was young I had all his records. Johnny Cash was a impressionable person. However as a good Christian witness he had a lot to be desired.

 

How God humbled the proud and gave grace to the humble.

 

Being the broadminded person that I am, I went ahead and finished the movie. It's just what I said before—an adulterous love story. Nothing good can be learned from viewing this movie.

On another note: What is so heroic about Johnny Cash?

 

Seeing they do not see and hearing they do not hear.

There's not much heroic about Johnny Cash, except for his God.

 

I recently purchased the two disc Collector's Edition of "Walk the Line". I am looking forward to watching the movie again plus all of the extras on the discs.

 

And where was God in this movie, except in name only?
