It was in '65 and I know that '65-'67 was the height of his drug use, so yeah, it would have been about the same time.

One of my favorite moments on that album is the way the inmates go berserk when he says, "I can't forget the day..." "25 Minutes to Go" is another one I like from that album. I heard Shane McGowan sing that live once and it was one of the most disturbing thing I've ever heard.

Saw the movie it is over rated filled with tidbits here and there. Great for Cashaphobes but
more than lacking for the rest.

someone mentioned how Phoenix did not look or sound like Cash...I agree but he is still a good actor but this role was not even worthy of an Academy Award node perhaps the Academy was trying to make it up to him for his body of work
    which has been good.

Witherspoon still cutesy and seemed to lack the real gravitas but she tried really hard ..again the academy rewarding her for her body of work and not necessarily for this role.

The movie did not deserve Academy Award mention at all.

I think just the idea and popularity of the legend of Cash and Carter propelled this movie.

I purchased the DVD 2 nights ago and watched it.

I didnt think it was *quite* as good as those who go overboard with praise about it say, but certainly not as bad as those who go overboard in slamming it say.

I would say its a very good movie. I really enjoyed it.

Probably my all time favorite movie about a musician is The Glenn Miller Story with Jimmy Stewart. "Coal Miners Daughter" would probably be 2nd.

This one might be 3rd after those 2.
