Walk to Emmaus

Where is everyone at on this? The "Walk to Emmaus" was a huge deal around here for a while. Everyone seemed to be doing it, and if you weren't someone was trying to convince you to. I heard all sorts of really cool things from people of a variety of Christian franchises that attended. I never did.

If I recall correctly, the Walk to Emmaus has a Catholic background in its beginning. I never was comfortable with all of the "clergy and laity" talk, as I don't recall anywhere in the NT that Christ separates us into pros and amateurs.

I am curious to know the different viewpoints on the Walk to Emmaus, including your personal experience if you have had one.

care to expand?

18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold Wondrous things out of thy law.
162 I rejoice at thy word, As one that findeth great spoil. Ps 119

32 And they said one to another, Was not our heart burning within us, while he spake to us in the way, while he opened to us the scriptures? Lu 24

If you've never experienced it no amount of 'expansion' on my part can relay it to you. It takes a deep desire to know the scriptures to understand it.

I like the idea, but execution sometimes falls short. While this a Untied Methodist event, they allow Baptist Clergy. I have seen where goir of the 5 clergy were Baptist and it goes pretty well. I have seen where 4 of 5 of the clergy are Methodist and the talks contradict each other...in my opinion. Some will teach classical Arminianism, some a Weselyn version and other some type of a progressive near Pelagian message(perhaps tones of open theism). The Baptists usually form a more unified message that doesn't contradict....even if it is made up of Traditionalist and Calvinists.

The laity talks are more testimonial in nature. You never really now what you will get. Some of good, some are to experiential and contradict biblical Revelation.

The biggest issue I have seen is active church members giving all their time to serve in the Emmsus community and neglecting the local church. The leaders do however caution against this multiple times during the walk, gatherings and formation meetings.

The biggest positive I have seen is some nominal church members become more active and actual start service in the local church. Many come back from the event with a renewed or more active prayer life.

In my area, I would say Emmaus overall is beneficial to the universal body of Christ, but the local community is heavily Baptist...so others may disagree.

You do know that Lu 24 contains the 'Emmaus Road narrative', right? Luke 24:13

I've been on this road so many times and even if I explained to you, would you understand?... I know of Kentucky and he knows of me... Emmaus Road?... Been on that road more times than I can count... Brother Glen:)

Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
