Walter Cronkite Says US too ignorant to Vote

Have you checked out what Walter Cronkite had to say the other day?

I do agree with Walter.
In my discussions with others ,I have been told they may vote for a certian candidate beacuse their parents always vote for a certian political party, or beacuse they are members of a certian union. Some vote beacuse of one minor issue, ie disabled rights, gun rights, minium wage, youth curfews, and ect.
One lady told me she voted for Hillary beacuse, she was a women. Then the voter was upset, when she found out Hillary was pro-abortion!
Have you ever attended a (local) political debate or speech by a candidate. I have, both as a voter and as a candidate (check my website) and I am very disappointed at the low turnout.

Walter is right, many US voters ARE TOO ignorant to vote!

It's a worldwide problem and it actually used to be worse in the US than it is now.
Nowadays there seems to be a real divide between the Rep's and the Dem's, but in the good old days the parties were often nothing more than supportsystems for individual candidates. Individuals who in both parties could be almost anywhere in the political spectrum.

In fairness knowing his Left wing leanings, Walter Cronkite is probably more upset that Americans have elected Bush twice than he is about people voting.

I am not one who respects Cronkite. He undercut America during the Tet Offensive by implying it was a defeat for the US which was a lie. That is like saying Lee won Gettysburg.

Walter Cronkite has been a doddering old fool for years. He needs to learn to be quiet.

He is right about far too many people, but wrong about "as a nation". Fortunately, for most of us, I don't believe the most ill informed vote at all.

And when they do, it seems they tend to vote democrat, I believe.

No, I do not believe it was a good thing BUT even in a war I may disagree with, I do not believe you should give free propaganda to help the enemies of the USA.

Walter Cronkite is absolutely right. During many conversations with many people over the last few years, it has become evident to me that the vast majority of people do not make the effort to be informed on the many issues that we face as a country.

I think the biggest problem is that too few vote their conscience, and too many tell others how to vote.

Every eligible person should vote.
Ever voter should make an effort to inform oneself.
Every voter should vote his conscience, and not someone else's.
Every voter should refrain from telling others how to vote.
Lastly, every voter should respect the voting decisions of other voters.

(this last one is a rarity, which is why I almost never divulge how I vote).

I try to share my views with anyone that will listen. Our family is pretty much a voting block of about 30. We always share the data from a filled out ballot for those of us that are less informed. In addition my son helps more at work and my nephews do the same.

Originally only male property owners were allowed to vote in America.

Every legal test of the balloting process shows that he did win.

He is right, but for entirely different reasons than you have suggested. Cronkite was no model intellect. He was a face, a very biased political face at that. When we give intellectual credibility to people like this, it shows the shallowness of our own intellect.
