Walter Cronkite much more intellectual credibility than George Bush. Even if you like Bush, you have to admit that he is not a brilliant man. That much is evident after listening to him for even five minutes.

And you think Cronkite is?Originally posted by Priscilla Ann:

Johnv, this is good. I especially like the respecting the voting decisions of others. Based on the name calling in this thread alone, I'd venture to say that the giving of respect for those voting decisions is rare.Originally posted by Johnv:
I think the biggest problem is that too few vote their conscience, and too many tell others how to vote.
Every eligible person should vote.
Ever voter should make an effort to inform oneself.
Every voter should vote his conscience, and not someone else's.
Every voter should refrain from telling others how to vote.
Lastly, every voter should respect the voting decisions of other voters.
(this last one is a rarity, which is why I almost never divulge how I vote).
you HAD BETTER disagree.I would be told the end justified the means. As a Christian,
I don't know of any objective standard that would bear out the truth of this statement. You might argue that "credibility" is different than "reality," and on that, you could be right. Cronkite certainly had a measure of intellectual credibility, but it was not earned. Bush is no genius, but Cronkite was just a face with a voice. He demonstrated no great ability to incisively analyze the events of his day. He showed no great ability to reason through issues and difficulties. And that is fine. That is not what he was paid for.Walter Cronkite much more intellectual credibility than George Bush.
Some of the most brilliant people in history are very poor speakers. In fact, probably most of them are. That is not to argue that Bush is brilliant. It is simply to say that you have arrived at your conclusion from a faulty method. Bush is certainly not the brightest president, but he is by no means a moron. He is likely well into the top percentage of this country in terms of intellect. To say that we "elected a fool" was not a statement of reality. It was a statement of politics.Even if you like Bush, you have to admit that he is not a brilliant man. That much is evident after listening to him for even five minutes.

But I know the theory. Elite, intellectual liberals, dumb conservative hicks.
I'm not so sure abou that.Originally posted by Bunyon:
Bush went to an elite ivy legue collage and made decent grades. That makes him a straight A student at vertually any state university.
Then you have heard enough to be beyond questioning his intelligence. Question his policies; question his judgment about some matters. But there is no reason to question his intelligence.I draw my conclusions about Bush from listening to him for the last five years.
Enough said.
By respect, I meant verbally. I can tell you I don't agree with you without calling you names. I can discuss a candidate without calling him or her names. Whatever I think of someone personally, I do the cause of Christ absolutely no good with this behavior.Originally posted by Bunyon:
I don't respect the dicision of a Christian to vote for a party or candidate who is on record as wanting to vote for Abortion or Homosexual marriage. When a candidate supports such things, a Christian has no business giving him the power to cause more abortions or homosexual marriages.
