As far as the oil as a weapon problem, we should have been energy independent decades ago. That is our fault. As a temporary solution, I would just take the oil for our nation, especially from Iraq.

A lot of people are worried about their kids getting drafted to a meat grinder over there. Thankfully they are considering putting their boys into hidding should the need arise.

Looks like it is getting close to a ground war in Gaza. Obama needs to come out and support Israel now. But I won't hold my breath....

Note your other thread. I agree with you. When I say support Israel, I mean military equipment, smalll tactical units, etc, not a slaughter of precious American blood such as Vietnam or Iraq. Over the last several decades America has danced with the devil in the form of being buddies to Muslim countries. We have sent them aid, advanced weaponry, invested in businesses, and set up embassies and the such. First we supported Saddam, then we were against him. We supported the Shah of Iran, a butcher, and then pulled the rug out from under him. We paid Eygpt billions of dollars to stay at peace with Israel. We went back and forth on Kadhaffy of Libya who knows how many times. Our troops were slaughered in Somalia in front of TV cameras. Two hundred and eighty three service members were blown to bits in Lebanon. 4000 troops were killed in Iraq for no reason.

What does it take to get through our thick skulls that a love of liberty and freedom cannot be bought. These countries hate our very existence, and every principle we stand for. They gladly accept our free gifts, and would still as soon kill you, me and our families if they got the chance. There is no common ground here. There is no room for compromise. As I have said in many threads, we should have never established any presence in any of those nations. All they understand is annihilation.

At least Israel has common values with us. They have a respect for life, human dignity, freedom and democracy. That is aside from all the religious implications.

We are reaping what we sow. The Bible is quite clear there will be conflict between Issac and Ishmeal until the end of time. No amount of American tax dollars or blood will change that. I am 100% with you on this.

US Senate unanimous in ‘unwavering commitment’ to Israel

The United States Senate sent a message of solidarity to Israel on Thursday by unanimously passing a resolution that expressed firm support for Israel’s right to protect its people from terrorism on the second day of Pillar of Defense.

Introduced by Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Mark Kirk (R-IL), Senate Resolution 599 expressed ”vigorous support and unwavering commitment to the welfare, security, and survival of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state with secure borders, and recognizing and strongly supporting its right to act in self-defense to protect its citizens against acts of terrorism.”

Sixty-two Senators joined the bipartisan resolution as co-sponsors.

Also on Thursday, US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta talked to Minister of Defense Ehud Barak and told him Jerusalem has a right to defend its citizens. A US official confirmed the two leaders’ conversation to CNN. The spokesperson said they discussed Pillar of Defense and the “unacceptable attacks” used by Hamas and other groups in Gaza, and that Panetta reiterated the American position — that Israel has a right to protect itself.

Call me skeptical, but for anything beyond American rhetoric, I think Israel is on her own if this escalates.

Yes and murder several hundred thousand civilians while we're at it. Nukes are a weapon of last resort, not something to be used on a whim. Consider that we did not nuke Pyongyang or Beijing or Hanoi or Belgrade.

That is very nice but don't you think the face of America (Obama unffortunately) should make an appearence and state our full support of the Jews in Israel?

Why? This is a minor conflict. It happened once before in 2008, and Bush didn't make any appearances. In fact, it occurred just after Christmas and was over before the inauguration. I think billions in foreign and military aid and full support is plenty for this.

Were you there?? There is a method set forth in the Constitution to go to war with other nations. This does not mean go through a UN action, invade a country without a declaration, linger for ten plus years with no progress, and have no exit strategy.

This is the way it is suppose to work. We have no right to interfear n the internal affairs of a sovereign state when our national interests are not being threatened to the degree it threatens our way of life or existence. When a country decides to do that, we take all measures short of war to solve the problem. When that does not work, Congress declares war, the President executes the war. When war is declared, one fights to win with every means available. The victory is swift and so is the exit. There is no nation building.

In the conflicts you mentioned above, especially Vietnam, we had no business there, based on a faked Gulf of Tonkin resolution. Congress did not declare war. You said "we certainly do not nuke either." That is baloney. It saved many American lives in Japan. 58,000 Americans died in Vietnam during the Johnson and Nixon years. You better believe if I could rewind the clock, I would nuke Hanoi the first day then sent our troops home.

Did we declare war? No Did we fight to win? No Did we plan a swift and sure victory? No Did we have an exit strategy? No (North Vietnam provided that for us) This is the way liberals fight wars. Either fight to win or do not fight. It is that simple and it is Constitutional.

To add to the argument, the two main problems today linger, North Korea and Iran. If they had the technical capability, they would blow us off the map.
