There is the problem, RW is not our leader.
And I am not anti RW, I don't have a problem with him. But he isn't my leader, and shouldn't be anyone elses.

Can you see who his audience was? He was speaking at the World Economic Forum - not church. I do not think that his audience was just church going believers, so expecting him to address it as such is not appropriate.

Is a preacher of the Gospel supposed to go into all the world and preach "do good things"?

I really tire of the ceaseless criticism of effective ministries for the Kingdom around here.

Seriously, if any of you do half as much good for the Gospel as Pastor Rick has done in a week you might begin to have the credibility to ask serious questions of his methods and model. Otherwise, we should all get off the computer and get to winning people for the Kingdom of God.

Just plain sad man.

He is to preach the Gospel - but is that ALL he does? Does a preacher also speak of the maintenance on the building to those who he needs to address? Does he not also talk to friends about what football team he's rooting for in the Super Bowl? What about if he's invited to a Chamber of Commerce meeting because of a community concern and his church is a part of that community - is all he speak of the Gospel or does he address what is going on? Pastor Warren preaches the Gospel unapologetically but it's not the only thing he speaks on. He's also one of the VERY FEW pastors out there who are looking to reach those who are affected by HIV and AIDS. He is telling everyone in that audience that he was addressing to just get out there and do some good. That's a great message for everyone - and it's up to each one of us to assist in preaching the Gospel. It's going to be those who get out there and DO something who will bring the gospel to the individual including Pastor Warren addressing those whom he personally touches.

R.W. compromises on the Gospel . He has a history of doing that . He's within spitting range of Joel O. as far as heterodoxy goes . No matter where he is as a minister of the Word of God he should not mince his words . Rick Warren does not advance the true Kingdom of God IMO .

I reach out to people with AIDs and HIV every time I preach the Gospel, without fail.

No business putting him in the same sentence as Osteen. Not even close!

Ironic all of the "Calvinites" don't like RW. The five purposes he outlines for mankind don't really square too well with the eventual reprobate.

That's right, I've noticed that RW never mentions that Pharoe was purpose driven to destruction - that is, purposely driven to destruction by God. I guess God forgot to have a "wonderful plan" for Pharoe's life. Ditto the Canaanites.

Not only Calvinists agree with me regarding R.W. I believe there are a number of non-Calvinistic Fundamentalists who share my view on this matter also . Anyway , join the mainstream of evangelicals who think R.W. is swell .

There are calvinist and non calvinist KJVO's too. What's your point?

Rick Warren is only a man, and not infallible. He is a man of God, though, unlike Osteen.

Well I find these types of discussions pointless as very few minds are changed and usually it only results in hateful words being spread by one side or the other and generally from both directions.

Personally I don't care much for Rick Warren's teachings and he has even admitted that there is not much "real" discipleship going on in his ministry in the masses.

With that being said for whatever it is worth to anyone I really didn't have a problem with what was said in the blog. I didn't watch the video, but encouraging folks to do good to one another is not an all bad thing I don't think.

Not all people are going to accept the death an shed blood of God's Lamb on their behalf, but that doesn't mean we should enourage them to rape, kill, steal, etc.

However I would have to agree that anything that is not done by the Holy Spirit, while it may seem "good" to the eyes of human, it is just a filthy rag.

Read that. Todd Friel from WOTM radio goes through Warren's Gospel presentation on the Fox News Network on Christmas. For someone to call him a man of God, is well.. frightening. I don't doubt his sincerity, but he is misleading a lot of people by preaching an altered Gospel, a Gospel of 'life enhancement.' At least that is what he did on his Christmas series. Take a listen to the analysis by Todd Friel, it's not too long.

After listening to that, all I heard was somenone with an agenda taking parts of RW's sermon out of context to create strawmen. Hardly something worth listening to.

To qustion RW being a man of God is...well...frightening.

I understand he is not everyone's cup of tea...particularly those who have been believers for a while, as he is more milk based, but to see the constant attacks on him and his church is sickening.

Opinion noted. But you're not God... and I really think He's the final authority on what advances His Kingdom or not.

Neither am I a Rick Warren follower. But in the context of reaching out to those with AIDS and those who are poverty-stricken, can we not "give them a cup of cold water" in Christ's name, and then share the Gospel? Why must it be a 15 pound KJ Bible beating them on the forehead, all the while saying, "I don't care about your AIDS... you need Jesus."

Rippon, I'm not saying you feel this way necessarily.
