Was the 1906 Azusa Revival from God or Satan?
A riveting account of the Azusa Street Revival:
I was thinking more of a modern day tower of Babel, as in babbling tongues!CHARISMANEWS:
Why the Azusa Street Revival Ended
"....One of the biggest setbacks of the Azusa Street Revival came with the sudden loss of their extensive mailing list in 1909. After some disagreement, Florence Crawford, the strong-willed secretary of the Apostolic Faith Mission abruptly left town with the extensive roster of subscribers. Without this, the mission's newspaper could no longer be circulated...."
"....There was something else that may have contributed to the breakdown of the revival. Some of the leaders who attended the services were convinced that they could do a much better job of perpetuating the revival than William Seymour and his team. By the second and third year of the revival, several competing missions popped up around Los Angeles; attempting to take the attention away from the Apostolic Faith Mission...."
Compare with:
38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will be overthrown:
39 but if it is of God, ye will not be able to overthrow them; lest haply ye be found even to be fighting against God. Acts 5
Would say that if you read what Charasmatic Chaos has spawned from there, was really bad news!I'm not a Pentecostal (Azusa Street Revival), but I do know that your judgement's are very hypocritical. Referencing just one side of any issue is biased, unfair, lazy and just plain wrong.
So there were fake happenings before Azusa then? There was a book published a few years ago called Charismatic Cofusion. This was a reprint with added notes of a book published in 1834 which was entitled Modern Claims to the Extraordinary Gifts of the Holy Spirit. The title was much longer tthan that but it will suffice, By Rev Wm Goode. Asuza Street was not new.

There is no difference or very little between the historic charismatics and the modern ones.
. However, from my own experience inside the International House of Prayer movement for a few years, I can tell you that it really is charismatic chaos inside Pentecostal/Charismatic Christianity. Inside it you learn to value the bible less than in the SBC, you learn to get wrapped up with a cult-like culture of the end-times, and you place prime importance on displays of spiritual power instead of where such "signs" should be leading us in our relationship with God.
I believe I have to post this after claiming to be a baptist prophetic minister recently on this thread.
After much reflection, bible study, and prayer I have decided to stop prophesying and see what the fruit of this is over time. I came to the conclusion I may not be a prophet and may in fact be deceived by the spirit of the antichrist mentioned in 1 John 4:2-3.
I made this decision after doing internet research in which I was especially taken aback by the verse Ephesians 2:20. I do not see how I could be laying the foundation of the church in the 21st century. I was also taken aback by bible commentaries on the New Testament prophets that showed that their role differed greatly to what I had in mind based on where the spirits leading me have been taking me. I was also alarmed at a point when I seemed to doubt the resurrection of Jesus, which I decided to just have faith in blindly. My "prophetic walk" lately seems to have introduced the idea I had increasing evidence for God's existence due to supernatural encounters with spirits, which I did not handle well.
