1. The Weimar Republic was the first German experience at democracy--we have been doing it for a long long time.
2. They had huge armed private armies (of the left and the right), and political violence was common.
3. Even the President of Weimar, Von Hindenburg himself, wanted the republic done away with and the Kaiser brought back.
4. By the time Hitler took over, the Weimar was dead.
