Atheists don't believe in sin as taught by the Bible, but many of them believe in sin.

But my question is why is this important?

so why is it important? I am not saying I don't like the thread, I am saying why is it so important that a fictional character in a movie is an atheist or not. Maybe if you don't want to answer questions you ought not to post in here.

I think that the director's atheism is more important than an imaginary character. The fact that Evan has begun a thread about its theological beliefs is evidence that the creators of the movie have a religious influence on at least some people.

Perhaps Evan would answer Tom's question.
