We need more Kneeologians?

My friend told me today that we need more Kneeologians.... because its not bad to study God's word but so many try to learn by themselves and forget to spend time also building a relationship with Christ by prayer, worship and living in spirit and in truth.. that so many spend 14 hours a day in theology and not even 5 minutes in praise and worship...

Would you agree or disagree? lol I thought he made sense..

Do you mean bible study?
Bible study is one way God communicates with us, it is the only place to go for true facts, nothing wrong with studying it. Now 14 hours is a bit much.

Jonathan Edwards spent an average of 13 hours a day studying God's Word. I'm sure a fair amount of that time was in prayer.

John Gill had to have spent at least 14 hours per day studying and praying. Just look at his voluminous output.

John Owen was in the same category. And there have been quite a few others.

I can think of lots of things which are actually scary. Studying God's Word is not among them.

You sound as if studying God's Word was incompatible with worship of God. It's not. We can be brought closer to the Lord by means of studying His Holy Word. Prayer, praise and worship are involved in the process.

I like that...kneeologians ....I have a prieu-dieu (my spelling maybe off) which I miss (it is over the ditch). I hated being on my knees originally but it is a discipline that I have learnt...it is the getting up after stiffening up that is the trick.....there use to be a condition called nun's knee. Of course you dont have to kneel to pray but it sure concerntrates me.:love2:

I don't think any of thos people are who he's taking about, you said spent, past tense, they used to, because their all dead now. So I asked who he knows or is talking about who is currently spending 14 hours a day in bible study, not who in all of history. And what is his problem with people doing bible study.

1. Worship is a lifestyle not simply an event.
2. Studying the word is as much worship as anything else.
3. It is not uncommon for Pastors to spend 14 hours in study.
4. Study of God's word should never be divorced from prayer and worship.

I think most Christians are not studying their Bible but are getting into subjective practices like mystical prayer. We can pray and worship but if we are not grounded in scripture, we can be led easily astray.

We need more people that study their bibles. Too many Christians depend upon their preachers or others for their understanding of what they believe. Most people can't put together a simple defense of their beliefs.

To suggest that there is something wrong with intense study, such as 14 hours worth, saddens me greatly. As I stated before, I wish more, including myself, made more time to study.

Prayer is very important, and every single person should pray before studying, and multiple times a day. However, prayer isn't a higher form of worship than study. Indeed, both should be priorities for the Christian.

I agree with the idea of studying the Bible....study is fine but pray is about love....no matter how great or little if we learn to LOVE to our capacity that is a relationship with our dear Master that cannot be beat.

I would rather be a thimble overbrimming with love for God than a great vessel not even damp with love ...does this make sense to anyone:godisgood:

Peter said to desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby. Jesus said that men ought always to pray and not to faint. Are they at odds with each other? No. They are in total harmony. The child of God that seeks to grow in grace and in knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ should dedicate him/herself to prayer, study, meditation (the biblical kind not the eastern mysticism kind), and to gathering together with fellow saints to hear the preaching of the word.
