I don't know who this guy is but I agree with him. I grew up in the south just as he did and there wasn't people shooting each other.
Same here.
Disagree with the OP cartoon for many reasons.
1) It isn't that easy for a sane, honest person to
legally obtain a firearm. Sure, I can walk into any gun store and look around all I want. I'd better have my "ducks in a row" if I want to leave legally carrying my purchase.
2) That towering example of mental health aid should be an almost empty field instead. The closing of Dix Hospital in Raleigh NC is an example. Instead of keeping it open to help supply beds for those who should be confined, the alternative seems to be give out handfulls of pills instead.
3) Outpatient treatment does not appear to be as effective (certain types of illness) as we are led to believe. Far too often, in the aftermath of tragic events, the news reports that John Doe stopped taking his medications.
4) The cartoon should have also protrayed how easy it is to illegally obtain a firearm. How many criminals are going to walk into that gunshop door? If they don't have dollars or drugs to trade they may break down the backdoor instead of the gunshop. Or rob homes, and other legal sources of same. If all else fails, kill a cop and take his.
Few seem to be talking about doing anything material about the gun blackmarket. At most, it's about like the war on drugs. We can't close our borders to people coming in illegally. We can't close our borders to stop the drug traffic. Why should I think it will be any different with firearms?
Common sense seems to have disappeared and has been replaced with cartoons. May God have mercy on us all.
