I think we've all seen women wearing what should have been men's clothing, with the intent of looking like a man. (men's style hair cut slicked back, using men's mannerisims, walking like a man, I had to decide oif she were a woman or a man, finally settled on woman becasue of her voice, and slight breats) I do believe there is a difference from them and when I wear pants. I do not wear men's clothing, I do not try to look like a man,nor act like a man, and no one has ever, in all my life mistaken me for a man.

Our area of the state was originally settled by the scottish, so every year they have the Highland Games particapants are not only from area, but across the country and and even from Scotland, and all the men particapants wears kilts(skirts). It's nothing unusual to go to Glasgow and see them. Why becaue in scottish culture men have always worn kilts(skirts), just like in bible times men wore dresses, even Jesus did. None of them wore pants, pants did not exsist at that time.

Someone mentioned in the other thread that men tucking thier robes in there breeches was what was meant in the bible to girdup your loins, I did some investigateing using the Greek lexicon

    Strong's Number: G328
    to gird up
    metaph. be prepared
a metaphor derived from the practice of the Orientals, who in order to be unimpeded in their movements were accustomed, when starting a journey or engaging in any work, to bind their long flowing garments closely around their bodies and fastened them with a leather belt.

They used a girdle, which was a leather belt, common knowledge when you study the bible.

    Strong's Number: G2223
    girdle
a girdle, belt, serving not only to gird on flowing garments but also, since it was hollow, to carry money in

    Strong's Number: G4024
    having girded about
to fasten garments with a girdle or belt
    to gird one's self
metaph. with truth as a girdle
to equip one's self with knowledge of the truth

    as used in Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

That is exactly correct. Time and time again someoone comes on the BB and tries to tell us we are evil people for wearing pants, I've been assuces of lesbianism more then once becasue I wear pants, I want to know whose the hostile one who resorts to this. Never ever I ahve I ever told a dresses only woman she needed to wear pants too, never, but they do have the same common curtesy and respect for me and others here who do wear pants. When I was immature in the faith I too was legalistic same as them, but I learrned from God not to be,when I spent time in bible study and prayer, and learning from compatant gifted teachers at my church, the bible says Jesus paid all for me, no more bondage to the law was required, I beleved it, he who has been set free by the Son is free indeed, and I am free, Jesus said to no longer put yourself under the yolk of the law.

I do wear only dresses because the Bible states that we should be MODEST in our clothing....I am wondering, a lot of you ladies are getting caught up in the words "breeches/britches" but I would like to know if you feel you are MODEST in your clothing when you are wearing pants???

I ask this because one post stated something along the lines of, God gave us curves, therefore it's okay to show them! I don't see this as a MODEST answer! God indeed give us curves, but if we are "showing" them, that is NOT modest!

I feel perfectly fine, I do not feel inmodest, like I am showing any part of my body, and I feel assured the wind isn't going to blow my dress up(it has many itmes, several in the church parking lot, not very modest), I feel like a woman, and a beautiful one(even though I know it is not any outward beauty to me), I have no trouble feeling feminine, I never like to wear showy flashy clothing, I do not want attention brough on myself, and unually will do anyhting to make sure it isn't. So yes, I do feel modest. And I feel that becasue I try and dress so as I am not showing off naked body parts, I refuse to be revealing of myself, I try to please God in modesty,a nd my husband by my appearence and what he likes to look at me wearing, yes I dress very modest. If I feel convicted by God(not people) then I will change, but until then I will not.

I do not have many curves to show off, and would not if i did. All my clothing is loose and some to the point of being baggy. My husband has on a f ew occasions mentioned my clothes being too loose, but I am a plus size and want to keep everything coverd. If I weren't a plus size I'd still want to keep it covered, I mean who wants to walk around dressed so as some man might be thinking awful things about them, not me, I don't want to be the object of someones fantasies.

Hello Dorcas, First post on the board and it's in the 'hot spot'!

    You asked:
I most certainly do feel modest in my pants. I'm wearing a blouse (tucked in) and carpenter jeans today. There's nothing sexually suggestive in my clothing but I certainly look feminine! I'm a very tiny person and am 52. No one would ever mistake me for a boy.

I wasn't the one who mentioned curves but I'd like to give my opinion. Dresses, blouses, etc. will 'show' the curves of our breasts. Skirts and dresses show there is a small waist and hips. That is NOT being immodest! I feel quite sure that is what the poster was implying and not that she's wanting to show a lot of skin or call attention to her chest size.

    You also said:
I READ that as "You wear pants so the Bible says you are immodest." Correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't that exactly what you are saying to us?

Thank you for your post. I find it odd that your very first post on this board was one that told all but a few women that they are 'wrong' according to YOUR interpretation of scripture. I'd like to invite you to find the threads where you can share your salvation experience and the thread where you can tell us all about yourself and family. We'd like to get to know you better! I mentioned that I was a plus size, yet I know I still have to dress modest and covered up, as there are men out there who perfer plus size women over the smaller women. My husband is one of them, he says theres more to hold on too. He says in all the women he ever dated(he wasn't a christian then and date a lot of women) he only dated on smaller woman, the rest were plus size. So I know that even I have to be careful, plus size doesn't mean ugly to everyone.

Katie is right. I was trying to explain that my shirt is tucked in and is in no way hiding the fact that I have a chest, waist and hips but I am quite modest, in my opinion!

I'm not a well endowed person, hence the reference to tiny. I didn't want to 'cross the line' and have this thread moved out of view. LOL.

I don't believe a well endowed woman has to wear moo-moo's to be modest! They can look lovely and modest in nicely fitted things too.

    Hi Dorcas,

Welcome to the Board. Please go up 'top' and introduce yourself to folks!

Do I feel modest in pants? Yes, I most certainly do! No wind can blow them up; if I fall down nothing is exposed.

Do I wear tight pants? Nope. Do I wear shorts? Nope. In fact, the scars on my knee and the vericose veins are so bad now that the shortest I will wear pants is mid-calf -- just to save people staring if nothing else!

And I love the type of dresses called 'floats', which just sort of hang there without any waist or anything -- so that is NOT showing off any curves. Nevertheless, I feel more girly then than in my overalls, that's for sure. The overalls don't do a lot for my figure either...

If you feel convicted to wear dresses always, God bless you. But those of us who have to work hard around the yard and home sometimes feel more capable of that work in pants.

And some of us feel more modest in loose pants than in a dress!

So, ladies, because I tried to put this topic to rest AGAIN a couple of days ago, I'll give this one a few more hours and that will be it. There are a number of us who are heartily sick of the topic of clothing.

    Modesty -- yes
    Femininity -- yes
Rules about what that means to any given person -- no.

It's time to give it a rest, ladies. When clothing and appearances consume so many threads on this forum, it makes me ashamed of being a woman. Life is just a little more than that.

Glad you said that, becasue I'm not about to wear a moo moo, the ultimate in large woman's awful clothing.

Before this thread is closed I would like to say it makes my heart hurt to see christian women hurting each other. We should be loving to our sisters in Christ not bickering over a silly thing like are your pants modest, or I only wear dresses because the bible says we should be modest.

Some people have given some excellent scripture and historical references and these are ignored. So what is this really about? I suspect some people want to tear others down in order to feel like they are more spiritual than others. If I am wrong forgive me for that.

    Mt:13:
    34. A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you , that ye also love one another.

    35. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples , if ye have love one to another.

The one critical thing I have learned is unbelievers watch how we treat one another. If we are fighting over the little things what makes us think they want any part of God. They can stay in the world and have that.

Elnora's post is a good place to end it for now, ladies. I erased the two last posts as they were starting on the personal side again.

    God bless you all!
