Wearing Short Shorts at Church and Everywhere Else

I agree, Zaac. There is ZERO reason to post pictures like that on a site that is majority men, or even 50-50. Perhaps in an all-female setting those pictures could be used for illustration purposes.

What were you thinking?

Oh Oh, the morality police again.

Wouldn't the proper thing to do is to have some of the women in the church instruct these gals as to modest clothing (so that they don't embarrass themselves).

Seriously, it is difficult for any man to start preaching womens clothing selections from the pulpit without drawing disdain from everyone.

Exactly. It happened with me when I was 15 or so. My mother didn't know I had "adjusted" my outfit improperly. The pastor's wife saw me and admonished me seriously, but compassionately.

I was ashamed and didn't do it again.

I, myself, have taken girls at school and church and counseled them along with girls who dress quite appropriately who have talked to them. If I say something to a girl at school or church, I tell her parents that I said something. It's only happened less than 5 or 6 times in decades.

And that's part of the problem EWF. The girls are doing it because the mamas and daddies are giving the okay. They don't want anyone to say anything to their kids, but they aren't correcting them. It's time for the Pastor to start pulling daddies aside.

Give it a rest. Like I know the percentage of men and women on this site. The reason for posting the picture was to show the type of shorts to which I was referring. So go away with all the feigned disdain.:wavey:

And if the pastor doesn't?

Well Said Scarlett

If the picture is so offensive to the OP and it brings forth male members talking about "big breasted women" and "g-strings", then I think there was no need for the picture in the first place.

It's hard to tell if someone is truly indignant when he posts the very pictures he is indignant about and keeps on posting laughing smilies in replies to people.

I think we all know what immodesty is without brandishing the photos and talking about women's body parts.

I'd much prefer a discussion on how churches (which I don't see this type of garb either) could do instead of posting pictures that are supposed to be "immoral" and giving explicit descriptions of the parts of women's bodies that offend us so terribly.

It never changes around here. We ALL know what the problems are - but no one seems to want to do anything except to gripe about it.

Very well said Scarlett. We don't need pictures OR vivid descriptions to know what is immodest. It just proves that there is an IMMODEST WAY to TALK about immodesty. The old lie that some men (or women) would "read" a Playboy (or Playgirl) magazine "just for the articles"....yeah....right! Pornography doesn't ALWAYS have to be "pictures".

I do see that there is a problem in our churches with people (mostly women) (but not always) dressing in such a way as to inadvertantly "advertize" (things too tight, too sheer, too short, etc.) their physical attributes. It is both immodest and unholy in the eyes of God and a distraction from the purpose of worship for which we should be gathering. Men or women that follow the fashion trends of the world-at-large are going to go away from that which is Biblical, right, and God honoring. In general, the world-at-large cares nothing for modesty...only appearance and comfort and a selfish desire for attention. This will only get worse as the time of Christ nears. Tragically, the church tends to follow the downward trends of the world around it. There are exceptions (thankfully) but they are few and far between. In my opinion, the pictures that were posted in the OP were unnecessary and unwanted in a Christian forum. You can see enough of those types of trashy women and fashions just walking through your local Walmart or any Mall. Don't need it here. We aren't blid or dumb....at least I don't think so.

Your assuming that the mother & father know what dressing like a lady really it. What if they come from a dysfunctional, Alcoholic, abusive, or broken family?

This is just the tip of the iceberg! drugged kids, tatoos, Piercings, cigarettes, promiscuity, hanging around with the wrong crowds....these are all cries for help.

I agree. The one case I am thinking of in our church, the parent of the teenage girl is really confused about a lot of spiritual things, and comments on how cute her daughter looks when she posts pictures of herself in revealing clothing on facebook.

Oh Oh, the morality police again.

No police, just wondering why someone would knowingly post pictures that are sure to arouse sinful desires in his Christian brothers.

No feigned distain here. Seriously disapointed that even on this site, I am confronted with images I must either turn away from, or indulge in sin.

Sometimes there are still posts around here that blow my mind. How can anyone think the OP and several subsequent posts be anything remotely appropriate? Makes no sense.

The thread should be closed and deleted.

Our youth Pastor does a great job with the dress code. Also the post you first adult Life Group leaders to an excellent job as well. When I worked in a school and we had to call a parent because of this issue when they arrived it was quite obvious by how the parent was dressed where the child got it from.
