Well, did any pastors get anything for Pastor Appreciation Sunday?

So do you all celebrate the anniversary of your pastor? Do you have a special day for he and his wife?

I'm doing an appreciation on the 29th of this month. I do this Pastors every year. His Church works all year toward his appreciation. His Church has a pastors aid committee that put's on programs, bake sales and raise money all year for this day. Last year they gave him a fairly healthy sum of cash, a new lincoln and they pay his insurance.

I get a nice card for preaching his service but I give all offerings to the Pastor's on their day. I won't accept any gift.

we do not celebrate the anniversary. No one around here even knows when ours is I dont think. Of course, most pastors of my persuasion only make it to 2-3 years anyway.

I was treated to a homemade dinner and a verbal attack. Not from the same people.

While I see nothing wrong with recognizing the service of a pastor, this thread about "Did anyone GET" strikes me in a negative way. Pastors are not to worry about getting, but giving. They are supposed to be servants.

I'm always thankful for what I get. Even the verbal assaults.

Since I am not a pastor, it would have been inappropriate! :)

But I am a POSTER on the board. Does that count? haha

My church has been so good to me. Not one day this month has gone by that I haven't received an email or card. They did a video tribute Sunday night...it was neat seeing some of my once-students-now-young-adults coming on the screen and thanking me for stuff. God bless 'em...I'm not gonna tell them I would have been "good for nothin'."

Hey, I'll trade two verbal assaults for a home-cooked dinner...

(Just to clarify, I want the dinner.)

    lol.
Well I cant say we are thankful for the verbal assaults other than they stretch and grow us.

But we did have a couple prepare a wonderful seafood lunch for us on Sunday and they gave us a sweet card as well. But we didnt need that - these people live their appreciation.

I tell the wife we have to take the good with the bad. Sometimes there's more bad then good but it all comes out good in the end.

Sorry my thread title struck you in a negative way,

most pastors I know don't worry about getting, but giving....and, in fact,

they ARE servants, on-call 24/7 for sickness, funerals, weddings, counseling, problems, and more. (even the occasional verbal attack)

Grateful congregations need to recognize their pastors not only on a special day, but throughout the year. I am not a pastor's wife, but grew up as a PK. So you might say I have a special place in my heart for pastors.

And I'm glad to see on this thread there are congregations/members who appreciate their servants.:flower:

I had a "pastor appreciation" near miss today.

I'm a keyboardist, and I've salivated over the Korg OASYS keyboard (the Lamborghini of synthesizers: list price, $9,900. There ain't NO WAY.)

Anyhoo, a couple of weeks ago, a key on my laptop broke. It's a seldom-used key, and the only way to fix it was to replace the keyboard...so I ignored it.

Anyway, our IT guy (who is a great guy--business owner, pretty wealthy) came in today, and said to me..."I've gotten you that keyboard you've been wanting."

I really am grateful for the computer keyboard...but for juuuuust a split second, my "pastor appreciation month" had taken on mythical proportions...

Our congregation planned a dinner/fellowship and potluck last Sunday evening after services. We planned it while he and his wife were out of town. We all had a great time--and he was truly surprised.

As a former Pastor, I do appreciate the graciousness of the Congregation in giving a little token of their love during special occasions. So, this time our church members gave $1000 to our Pastor on Pastor's Appreciation Sunday and we split the amount evenly between him and his wife (by giving them two checks). We are truly blessed by our Pastor's leadership and his wife's support in the ministry! :type:

We are servants - on call 24/7 (even on vacation!!).

Us pastors GET all we need (and far more than we'll ever deserve) from God Himself through His church. I don't "expect" to GET anything, but I also thank God that my church cares enough for me and my family to encourage us. A little encouragement goes a long way!

My heart goes out to those faithful men of God and their families who are at churches that have absolutely no desire to let them know they're appreciated. May God send them to a church that will take care of them!

I've been at one of those churches, i'm with you on this.
I don't expect a pat on the back or any applause...and wouldn't want the latter; but a little encouragement is good for anyone and everyone.

nothing expected, nothing recieved and not worried about it.

I am told by the congregation that I am doing good and improving. Our church is growing in grace, numbers and His Word.

I am fortunate that our folks don't wait for a particular month or day to tell me they love my family and I. We are blessed regularly by our congregation.
