West Virginia mayor slammed, nonprofit boss fired after saying Michelle Obama is 'ape in heels'

A West Virginia mayor was criticized and her businesswoman friend fired after calling First Lady Michelle Obama an “ape in heels.”

“It will be so refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady back in the White House,” wrote Pamela Ramsey Taylor, the axed director of the government-funded Clay Development Corporation.

“I'm tired of seeing a Ape in heels."

The Facebook post has since been deleted. Screenshots of the her remarks were shared thousands of times by social media users condemning the racist message.

One person not outraged, however, was Beverly Whaling, the mayor of Clay.

“Just made my day Pam,” she commented under the original post.

NAACP state director Owens Brown slammed the disparaging message and said that “there’s no place for these types of attitudes in our state.”

“Unfortunately this is a reality that we are dealing with today,” he added.
An online petition says that both women, who appear to have deleted their Facebook pages, should lose their jobs for the “hateful, racially motivated statement.”

The page had gathered more than 24,000 signatures as of Monday night.

Every county of West Virginia went for Donald Trump in last week’s election, with more than 77% of Clay County supporting him.
The Clay Development Corporation confirmed Taylor lost her job following the statement.

While awaiting her fate, Taylor told WSAZ-TV she was considering suing those whom she claims slandered her.

Whaling told the Washington Post that her comment "was not intended to be racist at all."

"I was referring to my day being made for change in the White House! I am truly sorry for any hard feeling this may have caused! Those who know me know that I'm not of any way racist!"

Yep. Now that bigotry and racism have been normalized, they are just coming out of the wood-works.

Two women that work for the government in West Virginia make a stupid FB post about Michele, and you try to blame Trump for it? No sale, the left used to call Condi Rice an ape and they thought that was a hoot.

But that being said, this was a stupid post anyways, and she deserved to be fired for a lack of common sense, if anything - why disparage the First Lady, she is more attractive than both of them?

Trump set the tone in his campaign. We are seeing what his sowing of hatred is reaping.

George Soros is the most at fault for that, his money, his riots.

Is Trump responsible for the left calling GWB "smirky monkey"? is he responsible for when they called Condi an ape?

You *might* have a better case if these governmental employees had called Michelle overweight, but that's not what they did and it's insane to hold one person responsible for something other people said, even if they had been "inspired" to make the comments. They're not children.

This is awful. Also, think biblically.....Trump didn't cause this....rather, the evil in their hearts did this. The human heart is desperately wicked.

Racism is ungodly and sinful. The person who posted this needs our prayers.

Unfortunately, that kind of talk has been around for a LONG time. A man I went to school with says that sort of thing all the time on Facebook. The election has nothing to do with it other than now it's getting press.

Rather silly question.

No Trump did not cause those comments. Who used them. I never say them.

Regardless, Trump's insults and hate filled speech has emboldened many who otherwise would not use such language. Yes, Trump bears some responsibility for the increase of such incidents. He flushed racism out into the open by his taunts and insults used in the campaign.
