What About Lot?

Dear Brother Larry,
If you view this post irrelevant to the discussion here let me know and I will try to make it relevant.

What is the difference in the faith of Abraham and the faith of Lot?

Was Lot a 'saved' person? Does his 'fruit' bear this out? or does scripture declare this?

If he is a saved man, why did he subject himself to the sinfulness of Sodom and Gommorah?

Did he have less faith than Abraham? If so, why?

Did this cause him to lose his salvation? IN what sense?

Dear Brethren, I believe a proper understanding of these questions could go a great deal in helping us to understand the primary differences we have with one another.

Is there any way from scripture we can answer these questions? or any one of these questions?

The only way we know that Lot was saved is that 2 Peter 2 tells us that his righteous soul was vexed day after day. We do not know what else went on in his life. We are told very little really. So yes, Lot was saved; no, he did not lose it. What happened after the Sodom and Gomorrah and the Zoar incident we do not know. It would be fruitless to speculate.

His vexed soul was a fruit of salvation. Those not saved are not vexed by sin. They may dislike it but they are not vexed by it. Why did he subject himself to Sodom and Gomorrah? Because he was interested in the fertile plains.

Beyond that, we must speculate, and I don't have any great insights into it.

I must admit though, that I am unsure as to how this relates to CvA discussion. Perhaps you could enlighten us all to that

Not a problem ... I enjoy a good discussion. If you think this is relevant to CvA, I would be very interested in finding out why. I am not saying you are wrong, I just have never thought of it in that light before.

I believe it disproves the fear of a child of God finally falling away.

Maybe I am wrong and perhaps this is only speculation. But except the Spirit had recorded this concerning Lot, how many would believe he had persevered? Sometimes I wonder even among Calvinists.

I enjoy a good discussion also.

Many Christians are dicuss about Lot, most believe Lot is saved while he was 'backslidder'.

The reason they discuss on Lot, because of security salvation issue relate with OSAS.

Often, I am thinking of Lot relates with salvation issue.

I agree with the Bible called Lot, 'just'. Because Lot obeyed the angel's warning. Before Lot and his wife, two daughters flee out of Sodom, the angels warned to them, do not turn around toward Sodom - Gen. 19:17 - "Escape for thy life; LOOK NOT BEHIND THEE{/B], neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be CONSUMED."

Lot obeyed angels' warning.

When they were fled out of Sodom. God sent fire rain pour down upon Sodom, and it destroyed. Lot's wife looked back from behind, immediately she became pile of salt. - Gen. 19:26.

Lot's wife disobeyed angels' warning. She was consumed(destroyed).

In Luke 17:31-32 - "In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise NOT RETURN BACK. REMEMBER LOT'S WIFE."

Christ warns us, that we do not look back, my understanding of what Christ was talking about. We do not hold our old sin habits and return back to old ways again - world.

Luke 9:23-26 - "And he said to them all, IF any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and FOLLOW ME. For whosoever will SAVE his life shall LOSE IT: but whosever will lose his life FOR MY SAKE, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he GAIN THE WHOLE WORLD, and lose himself, or be cast away? For whosoever shall be ASHAMED of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, WHEN he shall COME in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the HOLY ANGELS."

Christ warns us, that we do not hold the world things, and keeping the old sin habits. We must yield up, and let go, surrender our life to Christ, deny ourselves- my own way, and FOLLOW Christ daily, willing to be suffering for Christ daily.

Today, many Christians prefer want to stay in the dark and staying in the same old sin habits. Many Christians simple, saying, "I believe in Jesus Christ" good enough go to heaven, BUT, many of them do not follow Christ, they stay in old ways, and stay in the world - dark.

Lot's wife was the example that she loved Sodom and dark so much, that means, she loved Sodom than God.

I agree DeafPostTrib, but was Lot's actions after fleeing Sodom evidence of his perseverance? I don't believe it was, yet we are told that Lot was righteous, then does the destruction of Lot's wife give evidence of the lack of her personal eternal salvation?
