Logos1560, I only looked at your first 29 examples.(Up through 8:33) William Tyndale's New Testament matched the NKJ renderings 21 times.

In Matthew 8:18 W.T. had simply "when" while the Gen and NKJ had "and when" and the KJV had "now when". I didn't count that in my 29 matches.

Tyndale's work was much more contemporary-sounding than the KJV wording of 85 years later.

Okay, I looked at 9:2 through 14:35. Of the 36 phrases 21 were identical between the Tyndale Translation and the NKJ.

Some notes along the way:

Regarding 9:6, the NKJ has "go to." The TT (Tyndale Translation) has "go home."

In 11:14 the NKJ has "to come", the KJ has "for to come" while the TT has "which should come."

In 12:2 the NKJ has "and when", the KJV has "But when" and the TT has "when".

In 13:57

KJV : offended in him
TT : offended by him

In 11:22

KJV : more tolerable
TT : easier

In 14:9

KJV : sat with him at meat
TT : sat also at the table

In 14:30

KJV : saw the wind boisterous
TT : saw a mighty wind

Continuing to comment on Post#16 by Logos1560.

From 15:8 through 21:19 I found 14 of the 24 phrases matched up between the NKJ and the TT(Tyndale Translation).

I have a few notes.

In 16:23

NKJ : but the things
TT : but worldly things

18:17

NKJ : refuses
TT : hear thee not

18:26

NKJ : Master
TT : Sir

19:18

NKJ : He said
TT : And Jesus said

Continuing to reply to post #16 of Logos1560.

In looking at the snips between Matthew 22:8 through 28:19, I found 23 of the 37 items matched the NKJ.

Some notes follow.

23:14

KJV : for a pretence make long prayer
TT : under a colour of praying long prayers
Gen : under a colour of long prayers

23:15

KJV : to make one proselyte
TT : to bring one into your belief
Gen : to make one of your profession

24:7

KJV, Gen : in divers places
TT : in all quarters

24:48

KJV : delayeth his coming
TT : will defer his coming
Gen : doth defer his coming

26:4

KJV,Gen : consulted
TT : held a council

26:40

KJV : findeth them asleep
TT,Gen : found them asleep

26:45

KJV : the Son of man is betrayed
TT : the son of man shall be betrayed
Gen : the Son of Man is given into the hands of sinners

26:62

K : what is it which these witnesses against thee?
T : How is it that these bear witness against thee?
Gen : What is the matter that these men witness against thee?

26:63

K : I adjure thee
T,G : I charge thee

28:14

K,G : we will persuade him
T : we will appease him

Conclusion : Out of a grand total of 126 items, the Tyndale translation matched up with the NKJ 79 times. That's about 63% of the time. The Geneva matched up much more frequently -- but the latter was using the Tyndale Translation as a base. Evenso, the Geneva Bible sounds more modern to contemporary ears than the KJV.

I think some of your items were a bit too picky -- like having "He" instead of "he". But overall, I always appreciate your research into these matters. Thanks.

Hmmm, interesting. Sounds like the description a few folks on this board give to any church or denomination they disagree with.

It is interesting to note that the people responsible for this website say this about a Baptist church --
"counterfeit Christian establishment"
"not a genuine church"
"it was founded and run by agents of Satan who were posing as Christians"
"evil spirits they sent on assignment (curses) to afflict our family"

Yikes!

Well, that was a site that popped up on Google as presenting some sort of KJVO justfication for rejecting the NKJV.

As I said early in this thread, I have no dog in this fight.

The authoress of their "statement of faith" has been posting on the "Fighting Fundamental" site for a little while, where her pro-KJVO arguments are systematically dismantled and proven false. They're the same ole garbage in a new dumpster.

You can see her name at the enda their statement of faith, & find her posts at
http://www.fundamentalforums.com/bi...uiz-may-work-with-other-perversions-also.html

and in some of the other recent threads, if interested.

That site is a disgrace to Christianity.

One thing that always bothered me growing up around King James Only doctrine was why the NKJ was not accepted as valid.

It is based on the same texts as the KJV. It has all those missing places that the others don't like 1 John 5:7 etc.

I have even seen people say that since "and these Three are One" is left out of all other versions then that makes the KJV the right version.

But of course it is not left out of the NKJ. All of these arguments simply do not hold up across the board.

One like Virginia Mollencott.
Just what did she have to do with the ESV or the NKJ?

I have never once seen a promotion of the KJV as the only valid version that would be honest enough to show you where some modern did not differ from the KJV.

The selective spinning of the facts is almost comical. It would be if it was not deceiving people. distracting people from the gospel and splitting churches.

It is my understanding that the KJVO folks said they would support a new Bible translation that used the same texts as the KJV for its base. After the NKJV came out, the goal posts suddenly moved. The folks that said they would support the new version began to claim that each and every word in the KJV was perfect and any change was evil. They looked long and hard for anything they could find to malign the NKJV. Most complaints have centered on the symbol that Thomas Nelson put on the front cover (which had nothing to do with the translation and is no longer on the cover) and the footnotes explaining the differences between the TR, Majority, and Critical texts.
