What about the recent tornado outbreak and God?

“The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, And will not at all acquit the wicked: The LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, And the clouds are the dust of his feet.” Nahum 1:3 (KJV 1900)

Consider Luke 13:1-4. This tornado outbreak was a tragic event, but a natural disaster. 9/11 was a tragic event brought about by terrorists. Every school shooting is tragic, but sinful men pulled the triggers. Genesis 3:17 tells us the earth itself is cursed because of man's sin. I believe this goes far beyond the hard work of farming and raising crops, but explains why we have tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc.

There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare, even so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them. Ecc 9

Job 1:12,18-21
“All right, you may test him,” the Lord said to Satan. “Do whatever you want with everything he possesses, but don’t harm him physically.” So Satan left the Lord’s presence.

While he was still speaking, another messenger arrived with this news: “Your sons and daughters were feasting in their oldest brother’s home. Suddenly, a powerful wind swept in from the wilderness and hit the house on all sides. The house collapsed, and all your children are dead. I am the only one who escaped to tell you.” Job stood up and tore his robe in grief. Then he shaved his head and fell to the ground to worship. He said, “I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord!”

Job 42:3,5-6,10-11
You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me.

I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.” When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before!

Then all his brothers, sisters, and former friends came and feasted with him in his home. And they consoled him and comforted him because of all the trials the Lord had brought against him. And each of them brought him a gift of money and a gold ring.

Death is not bad, it's good. What could be better than spending life with Christ? As Gandalf says...

"End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it."

Modern views of death and destruction are not considering eternity with Christ. I know where I'm going when I die, and it will far surpass even my idyllic community here on earth.

Can you imagine being in heaven in your new body after time has stopped and trying to articulate your feelings about how you died a timeless eternity ago by some disaster on a distant planet named Earth that may not even exist anymore while God's thrice holy glory shines about you and illuminates every aspect of your soul with radiant joy?

I would agree with you had it wiped out California and New York.
