What alcohlic beverages do you drink?

When I drink, I usually drink cider or gin (and tonic). There are a few beers I like (Chimay is a current favorite), I have a preference for Syrah (Shiraz for those of you in Oz) wines, and I'll occasionally go for a good single malt scotch, but by and large it's cider or g&t.
I may drink a glass of wine or have a mixed drink sometimes, usually in my own home. I find no problem with this scripturally, as I remain sober. As far as testimony is concerned, I have a friend that led someone to Christ while having a beer with him....this same person that was saved had before refused to discuss Christ because of the rules and regulations he though he would have to follow if he became a Christian...ie. he had only been around legalists before. For someone to say that if others seeing us having a social drink destroys our witness seems to have a problem believing in the power of God.

I don't have alcoholic beverages that often but when I do I most often drink a red wine (I love merlots). I also drink mixed drinks on occasion (margaritas and dirty vodka martinis are among my favorites). I don't drink that much beer since I graduated from college (drinking it makes me feel like I'm back at a frat party again!).
The legalist is blamed for saying one cannot drink, and then the occasional drinker finds every legal reason why he can drink. I am always amazed.
I don't think anyone said it was illegal or even unChristian to have an alcoholic drink, but rather, is it expedient? I would just as soon forgo the pleasure and remove all doubt, than have the odd tip and leave room for the possibility.

I am alcoholic; for me to drink any kind of alcoholic beverage would, I think, be folly at best and mortal sin at worst. However, my alcoholism per se is neither folly nor sin, but rather analogous to diabetes or an allergy. There is nothing wrong with being diabetic, but for a person, knowing herself to be diabetic, to eat a bunch of sugar candy, is indeed wrong. Ditto for someone who is allergic to strawberries to insist on eating them anyway.
To tell an alcoholic he or she ought to drink is to fall to the level of the snakehandlers, in my opinion.

Charlesga brought up a point that a lot of folks are missing, I think. A lot of people are put off and afraid of Christianity because of the perceived rules and regulations. On the other hand, there truly are areas where to have a drink almost automatically means to become high or flat out drunk.
I will drink wine occasionally. Or maybe a wine cooler occasionally in the summer. That's about all any more, but I am also very aware of who I am with. If it is someone who doesn't drink alcohol, then I don't. That part is simple. If I am with someone who frowns on it, I don't. That is simple, too. If I am with friends out at dinner and wine is ordered, I will have 1/2 to 1 glass, depending on how I am feeling. In those cases to not have one would maybe make them feel I am playing 'righteous' or judging them.
So I have no problem with either way. I don't ever get 'high' or 'buzzed', let alone anything more! I totally respect those who choose not to drink, but I have no less respect for those who do. What I don't respect is a 'more righteous than thou' attitude on the one hand or someone who drinks to get high or drunk on the other.
But you'd be surprised at the large numbers of us in between!
Nor, by the way, did Noah ever lose leadership or anything else for getting drunk that one time! There is not one word in the entire Bible that criticizes or condemns Noah for that episode. Again, I am convinced personally that it was a clear indication of a dramatic change in air pressure from before the Flood, for that is exactly what will cause a person who might be a very moderate drinker to never suspect what is happening to him until he passes out or gets horridly sick. But whatever that episode entailed, the only criticisms I have ever heard of Noah come from outside the Bible.

There are unbelievers that have just as high a moral standard and life as any Christian. But Moral standards do not save. However, if a moral unbeliever does not drink and considers drinking to be wrong, you will not get an opportunity to witness to them as they will dismiss you or laugh and mock you.
Since in witnessing the power of God is in the gospel (Romans 1:16) if the unbeliever will not allow you to speak with him there is no power of God. The gospel is further defined by Paul as the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ (1 Corinthians 14:1-4). The gospel/good news is what the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ accomplished. God’s Word does not come back void but you must first have the opportunity to send forth His Word.
An unbeliever can only understand the Bible when they become a believer. Biblical discussions with an unbeliever are pointless except as a means to present the gospel and such discussions should be short circuited ASAP to get into the gospel message, where the power of God is. I write from personal witnessing experiences throughout the USA and parts of Canada, not from second hand knowledge.
Yes, I believe in and know the power of God, I have seen it many times. Of all people we as Christians should realize that what seems to be, may not be (Proverbs 16:25).

I did drink now and again, I didn't know it was sinful. My preacher did a few sermons where it was mentioned and it worked on my heart.
I took all our liquor and poured it down the drain. My drains got cleared and so did my mind and heart. I don't miss it. I do cook with it with certain meals but I am told that it's ok because the alcohol cooks off and I am not drinking it.
So my answer would be I do not drink anymore.

Jesus Christ drank Alcohol, was he a poor witness?
If drinking alcohol was good enough for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ it is o.k for the rest of us. Yes the Bible is perfectly clear that it is a Sin to be drunk and I agree. It is also a sin to require people not to drink, It is refered to as "An extra Yoke".
So on to the Question.
Coopers Pale Ale, Sparkling Ale, Dark Ale, Stout, Vintage Ale.
Guiness, Various imported beers, mainly the German DAB or GRISSER.
Rum, Vodka, Schnappes, Ciders.
Yet Surprisingly not alot of wine, althought there are a few sparkling Whites that are not so bad.
Also I do not drink Alcohol every day or even every week. I drink socially. And dont mind having friends over for a Pizza night to watch Aussie Rules Football, the greatest game in the world.

Thank you all for your replies, sorry about the poll not letting you choose more than one answer.
The reason why I had this poll is because I was trying to get some ideas and answers. Let me explain, before I was saved my wife and I would drink to get drunk, not everytime (when we went out to clubs, ) which I know that is a sin. However there were times when we would just have a drink when we went out to dinner. I started to wonder if I had a drink with dinner on occasion, maybe once a month, if that would be okay with my Lord. To be honest with you I cannot find any scriptures prohibiting alcohol consumption 100% but at the same time I do not think I would feel comfortable having one drink. Is that the Hoy Spirit convicting me? This is definitely one of these topics where I am guarding my heart about. I do not want to give Satan any ground in anything.
Even with all these replies and searching I am still not sure what to do. I see both side of the argument and I am still on the fence on this one. Right now I am not drinking, I do not want to take any chances.

If you don't feel comfortable drinking, for whatever reason, you shouldn't do it. It certainly isn't mandated that we drink alcohol. I understand the temptation, particularly if you've been drunk before, and have done the club scene "thing." It's like trying to give up smoking - you have to, for a while anyway, give up a lot of your activities, and maybe even hanging out with certain friends. A friend of mine who was trying to quit wouldn't go out with us anymore because he knew people would be smoking, and he didn't want to be so tempted. We really didn't see him socially for a few weeks, and even after that it was sparse for another few months until he felt comfortable.

Whilst the Bible does not prevent us from drinking, I think of the Apostle Paul in 1 Cor 6:12:
"All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any."

The Bible never says that alcohol per se is a sin, but getting drunk is. However, if a person feels it is wrong to drink, for them it is.
I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus Christ, that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him that esteemeth anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. (Rom 14:14)
I had a serious drinking problem when I was saved by His mercy, and He set me free from alcohol. I feel that if I were to take a drink, I would be slapping the face of my Redeemer who released me from the grip of this poision.

When I got saved the Lord convicted me that drinking booze was not something a born again Christan should be doing.

To clarify my posts above about my personal use of alcohol, let me add that I see going out drinking with friends and going out with friends and possibly drinking something while out as two different things. In the former, the alcohol is center of the social event; in the latter, it isn't.
