The first English-speaking Baptists (think 1600) were either Particular Baptist or General Baptist. (Particular = atonement with benefit to all the world for particularly to atone for sins of the elect. General = atonement for everyone).

Sovereign Grace Baptists are Particular Baptists in theology, biblical soteriology (Calvinistic and God-centered), missionary-minded, Our - yes, I am one - music is conservative and doctrinal. Real hymns of worship, psalms (scripture), and spiritual songs that talk about life in Christ and doctrinal matters. Hold to 1644 or 1689 First or Second London Baptist Confession of faith (doctrinal statement).

There is a Reformed Baptist association of churches/missionaries, etc. They are Sovereign Grace Baptist but most twisted with Covenant Theology since most were trained in Presbyterian schools.

You have specific questions, know that I am pleased to present my understanding/insights. The last church I founded was "Sovereign Grace Church: A Reformed Baptist Congregation" in 2005 and retired from there in 2021.

Here is a blurb from our church to show WHAT we were doing as a church:

>Doxological (glorifying God) in a lifestyle and ministry that lives in submission and obedience to God’s Word.

>Biblical and reformed in doctrine (London Baptist Confession of 1689), preaching and teaching the whole counsel of God’s Word

>Elder led, father-focused, turning the hearts of fathers to their children and encouraging and strengthening each family within the fellowship

>Promoting and supporting the spiritual growth and maturation of each individual, not just “going” to church but “being” a church

>Dependent upon God’s grace to supply all our temporal and spiritual needs, while living out the command to bear one another’s burdens

>Fostering a godly atmosphere of mutual trust, support, fellowship, loving relationships, and spiritual transformation

>Weekly service combining elements of our historic faith – God-honoring hymns and music, guided sharing, holy communion, men leading in prayer, powerful preaching and teaching, and wonderful fellowship

Thanks! One of the web sites found on this group indication they were an association of like minded churches holding to Calvinism soteriology, Confessions, and were seeing spiritual gifts still in operation?

So what would be major differences between you and a Primitive Baptist church then?

Primitive Baptists differ from Particular/Sovereign Grace Baptists in a couple key areas. We agree theologically (God is sovereign in salvation, believer's baptism, no "hierarchy". But we would demand educated/trained pastor/elder, Sunday School to disciple youth/believers. Music is large part of church. Strong missions and evangelism - yes, us Calvinists are the most missional people to share the Gospel and see God work.
