Another thread that mentioned Richard Dawkins' book The God Delusion piqued my interest, so I am reading it. Always pays to know what the loyal opposition is thinking, does it not?

After reading David Jeremiah's My Heart's Desire, a book on worship, I am now read The Freedom and Power of Forgiveness by John MacArthur; it too is in preparation for a bible class series on forgiveness I hope to start tomorrow.

I am reading the latest issue of Christian History & Biography. This issue is on music in church history. It has some wonderful articles on Martin Luther and JS Bach. There is an interesting book advertised in this issue called "God's Judgments" by Steven J Keillor. It would not have caught my attention if Mark Noll had not endorsed it. When I saw he had written the forward I read more on the book and it looks very interesting.

I just ordered "Land As God Made It: Jamestown and the Birth of America" by James Horn. It has all good reviews on amazon though I know some "scholars" have taken issue with a few of his points. Either way I think it will be a very interesting read.

1. Finishing up Experiencing the Cross by, you guessed it correctly, Henry Blackaby. Deals with the Cross and How it should impact our lives, esp. with our fight against sin.

Here are some excerpts:

"For the person who's truly born again, staying in sin is an impossibility" (p. 126).

"God has thoroughly defeated sin and Satan, so that when our enemy becksons, we need never tremble" (p. 132).

2. It's a good, healthy read. I recommend it. It puts the Cross into perspective from a practical standpoint. Just a 173 pages long.

Reading the Battling Unbelief by John Piper, my favorite author outside of the Bible. It's an adaptation of his larger work Future Grace.

Piper's handling of the Scriptures is so encouraging. His writings are a testimony to how much he meditates and wrestles with the Word of God. Good habit for all pastors to develop!

I'm reading Desiring God (Piper) and I'm starting the Culturally Savvy Christian by Dick Staub.

I just finished "The Bible Jesus Read" by Philip Yancey. Awesome book--I look at the Old Testament in a whole new way, now.

Got through a quarter of the book and I'm throwing it out. What junk...true believers can have their bodies possessed by demons, we need olive oil to ward them off, etc. All of this from a former satanist who claims to have become a Christian :rolleyes:

Currently I am reading a commentary on the book of Revelation by John MacArthur ("Because The Time Is Near"). It is not as detailed as his commentary on Revelation found in his Commentary Series, but it is still a very good book. I just found out that MacArthur has published a one volume commentary on the entire Bible. I certainly want to get my hands on that. I have a one volume commentary by William MacDonald and I just love it. MacArthur's has the same basic format so I am sure it is great.

Beyond that I am reading several books on King Philip's War and slavery. None of which are "Christian" books, but all of which are very interesting. I have even got hold of several primary sources from that period. Very interesting.
