I'm currently enjoying Licoln Brewster's live album "All To You... Live" and a self-titled album from a new duo called Connersvine... they have an interesting acoustic rock sound... in fact, one of the duo is the punter for the Indianapolis Colts!

    Bro Mike,

Do you remember Nick Lowe's song, "Cruel to be Kind"? I love that song!! I am thinking that Carlene Carter( June Carter-Cash's daughter) was in the video, too. I am thinking they either married or at least dated.

Sure do. When I was in Jr. High School, I had a band with some kids in my neighborhood and that was one of the songs we used to do.

If you ever see Nick Lowe live, he closes with that and "Peace, Love, and Understanding", which he also wrote.

I think there's a law that everybody in Nashville has to be married to one of Johnny Cash's daughters.

Nick Lowe, Marty Stuart, and Rodney Crowell are all sons in law or former sons in law.

Convicted, I was thinking about your post.

Did you realize that the version of "Cruel to be Kind" you're talking about was the third version of that song and that the first two were dramatically different.

The original was done by Brinsley Schwartz and then Nick Lowe did a solo version, which is about twice as fast and doesn't feature any bgv or the guitar solo in the better known version.

I didn't even think about that until after I posted the other day.

    Alan Jackson - "Precious Memories"

This album is fantastic. It's a perfect companion to Ricky Skaggs and the White's "Salt of the Earth". Literally not a day goes by that I don't play some or all of it. It's probably one of the best Gospel albums I've heard since Merle Haggard's "Land of Many Churches".

I liked it so much that I went and dug out an old album by Dennis Parker, who plays with Kentucky Thunder, called "The Missing Piece".

    All good stuff.

Hey Mike McK - you've got some pretty eclectic tastes there! Heard a lot about Precious Memories but haven't listened to it yet, altho' I do have one of Jackson's previous albums.

I'm into Philips, Craig & Dean at the moment. Every time I go out in my trusty little rusty, that's what I have on in the CD player. You'd think after months of listening to the same songs, you'd get sick of it, but I find myself really enjoying their harmonies. One song in particular is probably my favorite of all time - Here I Am to Worship. Just pulled out another CD I haven't listened to in a long time, but really enjoy - Edwin Hawkins Singers (remember them?) and O Happy Day. And finally, another favorite, Ruthie Foster, Runaway Soul

I'm not a big fan of Alan Jackson (although I do like his cover of Boats to Build with Jimmy Buffett) but somebody gave me this one and it's really good. Like I said, it's really different than his county stuff.

I do like the Edwin Hawkins Singers and Ruthie Foster, too.
