What books will you read this new year?

The number #1 book to read is the Bible and I plan to read the entire OT if possible. However besides that its very important to get into books. Theology, commentaries, and may I also say evangelism? Below are my suggested books to read.

1. Heaven & Hell--Edward Donnelly---Develop a passion for the lost by understanding what Hell is and the destination of many.
2. Tell the Truth Will Metzger
3. The fifth Gospel Bobby Conway
4. Find it quick handbook on cults and new religions--Ron Rhodes----Are you evangelizing and defending the faith against the false churches in your area? Are you sending letters? Are you meeting with leaders of false churches? What are you doing to defend the faith that was once delivered to the saints?

Aside from Scripture, I hope to move the second and third volumes of Manchester's The Last Lion off of my to read shelf.

Anything else that I read is based on the mood that strikes.

I have quite a few on my "to read" list. I'm going to finish what I have started in 2014 of course: Child's Biblical Theology of the OT and NT, Vangemeren's Progress of Redemption, and Van Til's Defense of the Faith.

When I move back to the states and have access to my library and others, I'm going to read: NT Wright's Climax of the Covenant & Paul and the Faithfulness of God, Gombis's Drama of Ephesians, and Pennington's Heaven and Earth in the Gospel of Matthew. If my prof finishes his book on Revelation (from the Zondervan Bib Theo of the NT series), then I'll add that to the list.

I bought a new chronological bible ... this one is also a study bible. It's not a daily bible like my other chronological one. I'll just read daily how much I can and can digest.

I want to re-read Beth Moore's When Godly People Do Ungodly Things and Breaking Free before the year is out.

But first, I want to read C. S. Lewis' The Abolition of Man. It was on my list last year and I didn't get to it, so it's first on my list for this year.

Rolf, Joel Osteen is perhaps a great "Motivational Speaker" but he's not a Pastor and he should not hide behind a Church. I still wouldn't buy his book.

Hamel, I would daresay that Osteen is not even a great motivation speaker. Sure, he draws in a big crowd, but all he is doing is telling them that it's all OK - God wants them to live a fantastically perfect life and they don't really have to do anything but sit back and watch God take care of all their needs.

That isn't motivating .... it's enabling.

A truly good motivational speaker should stir the listener to prune his or her own hedge and weed his or her own garden and work hard to make this life more productive.

Scarlett O., you're spot on. I mean, he is a motivator of sorts but this rubbish being dished out that God desires for us to, as you said, "sit back and watch God take care of all their needs", is but hogwash.

If that was the case there would be no need to plant, then to, or to reap.

I have the exact same scenario. Many half read books on my shelf. Since I have an iPad I will buy electronic books from now on and this will save shelf space as I frankly have run out of room for books in my room.

Reading books is awesome. I love books and theology
