There has been much confusion as to what entails a work of man. How would you define a ‘work?’

LeBuick said:Jn 6:28 (KJV) Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
Le Buick: This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
Brother Ed: How about a total delineation &
catagorization of all Good works (starting with
the ones mentioned in the Bible, of course).
TCG: a. A work is anything a person does, expecting a wage or what is owed.
b. This is work of merit and is condemned in Scripture.
Brother Ed: We are saved by grace
We are saved to do Good Works
Ed Edwards said:BTW (by the way) we are saved by GOOD WORKS
We are saved by the good works of Messiah Yeshua
That, my good brother, is the sweet doctrine of Justification, His righteousness imputed to us when we believe (2 Cor 5:21; Rom 3:25).

HP: How are these ‘necessarily’ condemned in Scripture? God states that He will reward us for even giving a cup of cold water in His name. Is that not something I do? Can I not rightfully expect a reward for doing so? Is it not clearly in accordance to Scripture to do good to those around us and expect God to praise and reward us as He states He does and will?

HP: Can we stay focused for just a few posts?![]()
We are not trying to address justification on this thread at least yet. We are trying to simply understand what works are. Focus Brother Ed and TCG, Focus!
TCG: I' ll try, but Justification is so tasty!
Heavenly Pilgrim said:HP: Now my dear Brother, could you be avoiding my simple questions?![]()
Brother Ed: Or could it be we are cross posting?
BBob: For once, I wish someone would address the works spoken of here in Ehp: 2, which is speaking of the works of the Law, and not just works for Salvation or Belief in Christ either. So, when we say we "believe in Christ", it does not mean the works spoken of in Eph. 2:.
Also, this scripture addresses those who don't believe that Isreal and Gentiles have already become as one.
