I believe Christ our Passover was sacrificed for us on the fourteenth day of the month Nissan of whatever year it was to God, the year Christ died.
I believe he died some time after the ninth hour yet before the eleventh hour and some minutes and was entombed before the twelfth hour which would be the beginning of the fifteenth day of the month Nissan.

I failed to vote so voted Wednesday. I believe God the Father laid Christ as the cornerstone of the church in Zion late on the Sabbath of the seventeenth day of the month Nissan.

I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.
The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.
This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

As of today - Resurrection Sunday is in 47 days.

So what day did Christ die?

It can be confusing but here's how I understand it with Christ confirming as Jonah was in the belly of the whale 3 days and night so will the Son of Man.... I believe in a literal 3 days and 3 nights, but this is argued and I won't contest it.

John spoke of the "High Sabbath" that week along with the weekly Sabbath. The days then in Jewish time began at sunset.

It is believed the preparation day for this high Sabbath was on Wed. with the high Sabbath being on Thur. another preparation day on Fri. for the weekly Sabbath on Sat.

Luke said when they placed His body in the tomb it was the preparation day, which was the preparation day of the high Sabbath which was Wed.

And Luke said the Sabbath "drew on" in other words the high Sabbath was coming at sunset on Wed. beginning the high Sabbath on Thur.

If this is true then Christ would have been in the tomb shortly before sunset that began the high Sabbath began.

All of Thurs., Fri., and Sat. until shortly before sunset on Sat, that began the fist day of the week Sun.

So Christ would have been in the tomb for the full 3 days and 3 nights, having risen from the tomb sometime around sunset on Sat, with Sun. beginning, meaning that Mary Magdalene found Him some 10-12 or so hours after He had risen from the dead.

Nisan 14th was according to Mark 14:12, was the day before Mark 14:17.

Mark 14:12, And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?

Mark 14:17, And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.

Note, Mark 14:17 is the evening of Nisan 15th.

Per Mark 14:12 makes either a Wednesday or a Friday crucifixion impossible. Because Christ was crucified the following day.

@Charlie24,
John 19:31, The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

The preparation day begins on our Thursday evening after Sun set. That passover seventh day Sabbath was a high day being during the week of the unleavened bread feast.

I won't argue it, but I believe as many that preparation day in John 19:31 was not for the weekly Sabbath but the yearly "High Sabbath."

That particular timeline coincides with a full 3 days and 3 night in the tomb.

Most but not all scholars believe this to be what actually happened, the ones I've read anyway.

There are only 3 "Sabbaths" between the 14th and the 21st of Nisan, Passover week per year. The 15th and 21st were food is allowed to be prepared. The 7th Sabbath NO food is allowed to be prepared. It is a higher Sabbath!

There are 7 feasts yearly that are High Sabbaths, days of rest.

  • First Day of Unleavened Bread: 15th of Abib/Nisan (Lev. 23:6-7).
  • Last Day of Unleavened Bread: 21st of Abib/Nisan (Lev. 23:8).
  • Feast of Weeks (Pentecost): (Lev. 23:21).
  • Feast of Trumpets: 1st of Tishri (Lev. 23:24-25).
  • Day of Atonement: 10th of Tishri (Lev. 23:27-32).
  • First Day of Feast of Tabernacles: 15th of Tishri (Lev. 23:34-35).
  • Last Day of Feast of Tabernacles: 22nd of Tishri (Lev. 23:36).

The High Sabbath that occurred in John 19:31 was the first day of Unleavened Bread.

What separates dummy Charlie24 from the scholars is they say if the High Sabbath falls in a weekday it's placed before the weekly Sabbath.

When I studied this years ago I didn't understand it and never pursued it.

Maybe you know something about what I was to lazy to pursue.

First Day of Unleavened Bread: 15th of Abib/Nisan (Lev. 23:6-7).
The 15th first day of the 7 day feast, 15-21.
The first day of unleavened bread is the 14th, Exodus 12:18.
Unleavened bread 14-20.
Feast 15-21.
The overlapping days are 6 days, Deuteronomy 16:8.

The Bible ONLY teaches 7 days of unleavened bread, not 8.
Modern Jews practice either 8 or 9 days!

According to Lev. 23:5-6, the 14th is the Passover, beginning on the 15th the unleavened bread taken.

But this is an oversight, unleavened bread is eaten with the Passover on the 14th as you said.

I copied the 7 High Sabbaths online and didn't see it, but you did!

That's some good attention to detail there, 37818.

How do you understand the placement of the High Sabbath days in correlation with the weekly Sabbaths?

Post # 10 is how I understand it being these High Sabbaths could fall any day of the week.

That's what I gathered from the scholars, and it fits with Christ crucified on Wed.

The scholars specifically point out the "High Day" in John 19:31 is referring to one of the 7 High Sabbaths.

In this case it's the First Day of Unleavened Bread. It's moved to Thur. with Fri. being the preparation day for the weekly Sabbath.

What scholars can you find explain Deuteronomy 16:8, six days of unleavened bread?

Exodus 12:18. 8 days 14-21.
Unleavened bread, 14-20.
Feast of, 15-21.
Bible only teaches 7 days of unleavened bread, not 8.

I'm not saying the length of time is changed, I'm saying there were 2 Sabbaths that week.
