What did you do for the Fourth?

Officially, I had Friday, July 3, off for a three-day weekend.
The reality is that I have a major project with a client deadline of July 6, so I've had to work Friday and much of the weekend.
Even now, I'm at work. I'm taking five-minute mental vacation and then back to my project...

We went to a friend's house to celebrate both Independence Day and another friend's 30th anniversary. Their kids set it up, and friends and family from all over the country were here. Some stayed with us! We had a cookout/potluck, visitted for about 5 hours, and had a great time.
Then we went to a nephew's house to set off and watch fireworks. (We are in one of the few places in our county where it is still legal, BTW.) Our small town (Medical Lake, population 4960) probably had more fireworks shot off than the rest of the county! There were at least 2 extended families on every block, setting off a wonderful (BUT VERY NOISY) fireworks display. My only problem is the sore neck I have now from snapping my head around to see everything around us! :laugh:
Side comment, not meant to derail the thread -- there were numerous wildfires set in the county last night (and today!), in areas where fireworks are NOT legal, causing much damage and LOTS of firefighter effort. In Medical Lake, we heard the firetrucks go out once, but have not heard or seen what damage (if any) was done by the LEGAL fireworks we had. Why don't people follow the laws that are on the books, and change the laws they disagree with, rather than breaking them and causing problems by their sneaking around doing illegal actions? ANSWER: "For all have sinned, and fall short of the Glory of God".
Let's get out there, talk to our neighbors about Jesus, and follow the Great Commission. They need it! I know I did! PTL, I have been saved for nearly 38 years now!

Saw the Marlins beat the Pirates on Saturday, and then stayed for the fireworks show at the stadium. After the fireworks, they had a concert by KC & the Sunshine Band. Remember them???
On the Fourth of July we always have family and friends over for the day. We have a cookout and games, and go to the Fourth of July parade our village has. It's a relaxing fun day for everybody.
Nothing for the 4th, but a few things on that day. We had "Christmas" because we missed it last December; a gift exchange after barbecue and chips & dips and cherry cobbler and watermelon.
Then I was back home the next day and went to church, as usual, and grudgingly listened to instrumentalists and ensembles sing variations of that "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Most of the words ain't bad, but I despise identifying the Union forces as God himself, making Shermans rapes and Sheridan's pillaging godly.

Worked on the sermon for the next day, of course. What else does a preacher do with Saturday night? Verbal fireworks the next day, maybe.

What did I do for celebration?
Went to a cook out. Swam in a pool. Ate food. When to a Charlotte Symphony in the park. Watched fireworks. Went to the Faith Fair. Watched people ride rides. Ate chinese food (may favorite American pasttime). Listened to the finals of FAITH IDOL. Where is Simon when you need him? Listened to the Nostalgia band. Went home and took a bath and went to bed.
