what do you think about gluttony?

    I am afraid it isn't quite that simple. J. Jump mentions an important point above. "Gluttony has more to do with attitude than anything. It is taking more than you need so that another person doesn't have the chance at it. One can be a glutton over more than food."

    You might be a gluttion if: You buy ice cream and pizza with the rent money.

    You might be a glutton if: The kids go hungry while you stuff your face.

    You might be a glutton if: You are thin but only eat at the most expensive places.

    You might NOT be a glutton if: You gain weight on potatoes and fatback because you are saving money to send to "Jerry's kids."

    You have two threads about food, seems your pretty focused on food yourself.

    Sure I am, it greatly bothers me how ignorant this country is about this stuff. I do alot of studying about this stuff so that I know what's good, what's bad, and what I can do to keep my family as healthy as possible. So yes, I'm focused on food, but not in the negative way that you are trying to portray it in. At the same time I'm not trying to be all goody-goody about it either, I mean, probably 4 years ago I got up to 193 pounds, which is really fat for me. I have went to great efforts to change my lifestyle for the better, and along the way I have encountered some real eye opening things that I feel compelled to share. The sad part is that nobody is interested in hearing them.

    Ironically, according to that CNN article I posted earlier, the most poverty stricken states are actually also the leaders in obesity. Also in that CNN article, look at the state that has the lowest obesity rate - Colorado, which also has one of the lowest poverty rates. I think this speaks volumes. Usually the more expensive stuff is actually alot better for you due to the higher quality ingredients and better preparation techniques. Anyway, I just don't think this makes sense, I don't think you can say that you can be fat due to grossly overeating, and as long as you're not spending much money, you're not a glutton. Makes no sense at all.

    I am sorry Corndoggy. I follow your point exactly. I think that maybe your definition of gluttony is over simplified to the point of being incorrect. Please consider doing that word study to see what the scripture is actually saying.

    Bad as I might hate to admit it, I have to agree with some of these, basically, at least concerning myself



    Yeah, Ah do!! Unfortunately. And I will not pick on someone else, either. So I gotta' admit - "    (My) problem is" "linked to" too much eating at my favorite local "Buffet". :rolleyes:


    "    (My) problem is" Hey! Can I go for two out of three, and get a pass on this one?? :D I don't eat very much ice cream, and I don't 'consume' alcoholic beverages, at all.



    Nope! "    (My) problem is" eating altogether too much. :rolleyes: :laugh:

    You misread me entirely. I didn't say that. Just "overeating" does not equal gluttony.

    That's good stuff. :) This other guy I know made some similar comments the first time I met him, he didn't realize it was me, he thought I was a real porker due to that handle, said "I thought you were the kind of man who really liked some fine fried food from the county fair!"

    That was a lame shot my man. Even if alcohol ceased to exist I'd feel the exact same way. Yes it is ironic that alot of people get hung up on alcohol yet totally ignore this, especially when many of the arguments for not drinking is due to adverse health issues, but the real problem is that they totally ignore this, that fact doesn't change. Other peoples views on alcohol isn't going to change my views on gluttony, and it's not going to make me stop drinking moderately.

    Isn't it funny? Ya go to the alcohol thread, and you blast those who know the truth about alcohol with, 'It's a sin to be a glutton,' but when one of those that know the truth about alcohol says something in the gluttony thread, they are making lame excuses!

    Now there's the pot calling the kettle black.

    I have an idea...let's start an alcohol/KJVO thread.

    we'll have a tournament:
    KJVO/moderation vs. Non-KJVO/tee-totallers
    KJVO/tee-totallers vs. Non-KJVO/moderation

    The winners get a KJB, NIV, shot glass, or "church covenant," depending on their preferences...

    Since everything's being directed toward those topics anyway...:thumbs: :tongue3:

    Just throwin' a little gas on the fire...

    I don't know if you are the spittin' image of 'Stringbean McPole' or the spittin' image of 'Fat Albert'. Nor do I particularly care, actually, on this. And if you mentioned something about your physical appearance, I missed it, for I did not care on that either. But my response was based on the fact that the poster mentioned you do have two threads on food, and the 'handle' on the BB of 'corndoggy' which again suggests food. And on another thread, you said " It is my dream to open up my own restaurant". I just put it all together. And I find that amusing.
