How many people who drink do not drink to excess?

Should be in the millions. I don't have enough fingers and toes combined to count them all.

Other people who see them might think differently.

Yes, some 'other people' think drinking one drop is 'drinking to excess.' So they get far more than excess if they gargle with Listerine or take a spoonful of cough syrup.

Sorry, I just can't see Jesus with a Budweiser in His hand.

Me neither. And I can't see Him with a cell phone in his hand, nor a steering wheel, nor a lollipop, nor a bottle of liquid paper to delete Proverbs 31:6, Matthew 11:19, or I Timothy 5:23.

Starting with myself, one. When I drink, I don't drink enough to become intoxicated.

What does drinking do for the Holy Spirit
Same as caffiene, sodium, toothpase, and toilet paper. Nothing.

Sorry, I just can't see Jesus with a Budweiser in His hand.
Neither can I. I also can't see Jesus with a toothbrush in his hand. But I brush my teeth regardless. I can, however, see him with a cup of wine in his hand.

Another question, where does the money go that you use to buy this sin? Not to the church, not to schools, not to homeless shelters, but it goes to corporations that sell this sin and cares nothing about the people they have killed over the years. If they cared, they would have stopped making this sin, whether or not you only drink just one.

Could the same not be said for cigarettes? Or fatty food? Or guns?

Umm, there is more alcohol in wine than there is in beer. Wine is roughly about 2.4 times higher in alcohol volume than is beer. So, having one 8 oz. glass of wine is equivalent to having one 19.2 oz. mug of beer.

Homebound, The Bible never says that drunkenness isn't wrong. No one is debating that here.

And as far as using the money arguement, that was the arguement that a certain deciple used with Jesus when a certain young woman wasted an expensive ointment on washing Jesus's feet. But I think we all know that his motives weren't really charity.

Wondering why the little amount of money spent on a bottle of wine isn't being given to the poor could be applied to anything we spend money on.

    In Christ,
    Laurenda

When a producer makes something, it's made with the assumption that people are going to use it responsibly.

By your own logic, where did the money go you spent on the computer you're now on if not to enslave people to internet porn?

People don't die from the actions of liquor companies or even the liquor, itself. They die as a result of their own stupidity.

Alcohol and the companies who make it should be judged on their own merits, not on the irresponsible actions of a few pinheads.

Most people that actually drink wine, fill a 4 to 6 oz wine glass about half full.

Agreed. It makes no moe sense than blaming arson on matches.

What kind of bread are you eating?

What about the water to wine that Jesus made?
    are you calling wine sin?
you have chosen drinking of alcohol sin, even if it is done in small amounts. you have considered yourself to be gracefully kept from partaking in any drink. now tell us the sins that you are not smug about that you do.

I could ask the same of the money speant on coffee and coke. Interestingly, no one wants to be a hypocrite and say that alcohol is a sin and caffiene isn't. They may think it, but they won't say it.

Apples and oranges. You gotta compare servings. As wisdomseeker already stated, wine servings are 4-6 ounces. As it turns out, a serving of beer (12oz) has about the same alcohol content as a shot of hard liquor (1.5oz) which has the same content as a glass of wine (6oz), etc etc etc.

Most people I know who do drink follow the typical serving customs. In other words, when I have a glass of beer or glass of wine, I'm consuming the same amount of alcohol.

Of course, I'm not a big drinker, so I rarely touch the stuff anyway.

This is anti-scriptural stupidity. "I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean."

There is no such thing as a substance which is "sin." For further confirmation of this.. "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days" (Colossians 2:16).

Not to the church, not to schools, not to homeless shelters, but it goes to corporations that sell this sin and cares nothing about the people they have killed over the years.

If you are a more-or-less typical American, you probably own a car and use it as a primary means of transportation. If so, is it the cheapest car to buy and operate? If it is not, then you are taking money away from 'the church, the schools, and the homeless shelters.' [If this does not apply to you, it definitely applies to others who hold your views.] In fact, do you purchase and consume the cheapest of everything? or do you steal from the church, schools, and homeless shelters by not doing so?

And how many people have car manufacturers 'killed' with their products? It's approximately 50,000 annually in the USA.

If they cared, they would have stopped making this sin, whether or not you only drink just one.

If the carmakers 'cared' they would stop making their "sin." Or is nothing evil itself, but its abuse and negligent handling that produces evil?

    Alcott,

Don't expect Homebound to respond. He excels in illogical biblical doctrine. When he is presented with something logical or something that his pat answers do not cover, he usually disappears.

Don't expect anything relevant from Sue either. It is not that I dislike Sue, or for that matter Homebound; it is just their hyper-fundamentalism that causes me a problem.

Besides, I wanted to complete my 500th post before I go to bed.

    massdak,
Telling you of my sins would have no edification on you or anyone else here.

    Alcott,
I see your reasoning on the car bit. But, I wonder how many of the 50,000 is alcohol related.

    Terry_Herrington,
The only reason that I stop responding is I believe that I have made my point and it is now up to the Holy Spirit to convict your heart. I cannot change you or anyone else.

Next question, if drinking can make a brother or sister stumble, why do it. I don't think God would allow this sin if it would cause another to sin.

    Homebound,

Why does God allow sin? Why won't God just stop people from sinning altogether?

Two words, free will. Also, Romans 5:12. God's plan is for you to look to Jesus when tempted with sin. But, sad to say, people will sin until the day of judgement.
