Boy, that about says it all! We almost need to have a disclaimer for some folk! Don't like this and don't like that..... My answer? Change Denominations!

Sort of reminds me of people who tell you they love salads... but hold the tomato and don't add any carrots. Leave off the radishes and certainly don't give them any mushrooms. By time you're finished they've got a bowl of iceberg lettuce which isn't even good for you! All water...

I have learned that not only are there a vast variety of Baptists, but there is a vast variety of Biblical understanding, interpretations, etc, but through it all, the Jesus saves is believed by all.

I have learned that people (me, too) often care too much about what anonymous people say on a message board. And too often take general comments as a personal attack against them individually.
We often ask questions and then seem surprised that others want to answer them and that their answers are different than ours.
I have also learned that GENERALLY the threads with a lot of posts have at least one personal argument in them. The calm threads that everybody says they want often do not last nearly as long.

I have learned, or rather, seen confirmed that false apostles are still alive and well.

I have read many things, but here are some things I have learnt:

    1. Most seem unlikely to accept they might be wrong about something. However, others will listen to alternative ideas and try to consider them.
    2. Many consider that anyone who believes his Bible is totally without error is "superstitious", "heretical", or "a member of a cult".
    3. I now know who Peter Ruckman is, and some of what he teaches.
    4. I now realise the New Covenant is not yet in force, and is not for the Gentiles (thank you, Pastor Larry).
    5. Just because someone lost the argument, doesn't mean he was wrong.

What have I learned from this forum? I've learned this:

1.) You all appreciate me for who I am and what I can become (thank you all!)

2.) I won't be bashed out at for liking Harry Potter & Lord of the Rings

3.) Jesus Christ is in every member of BaptistBoard.com

4.) That for once in my life, I will stay here and not leave

5.) That I can like all my interests, but I do not have to talk about them on forums

Thank you BaptistBoard.com!! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

What I’ve learned from this board is that there is a broad definition of Baptists. Prior to visiting this site I thought that all Baptists were “Bible believing” that is not the case.

I’m firmly against the secular side of our culture putting their .02 cents worth into interpreting the Bible. Granted the Bible isn’t your normal novel, but it’s not impossible to understand. With prayer for guidance from the Holy Sprit, ones eyes can be opened to the truth that lies within the Bible, without turning to secular man for their thoughts on it.

I was told in the “creation” thread that it was impossible for Adam and Noah among others to have lived 900+ years. I’m appalled!

I can't agree with you on Harry Potter, but I love the Lord of the Rings. I read them as a child and re-read them as an adult. Who could possibly have a problem with this work of art?

Tolkien was a Roman Catholic, and was a friend of C.S. Lewis, my favorite author and the greatest Christian apologist of the 20th century.

I have learned things that led me to change my belief, but let me clarify that although it was statements made on this board that made me question what I believed, it was the Word of God that actually revealed those truths to me. I just never questioned these beliefs until someone challenged them.

    1. I learned that tithing is not taught in the NT
    2. I learned that tongues were not a gift for today
    3. I learned that some things I have been taught as a Baptist are based more on tradition than on the Bible
    4. I learned that when I study my Bible I need to read it for what it says, not shaded by my beliefs
    5. I learned that people do not always like it when you challenge their belief
    6. I learned knowing the Word of God is important for it is the only way to identify false doctrine
    7. I learned that standing up for truth can hurt

    1. I have learned that there are some nice people on this board.
When I frist stated posting there was a disclaimer that said something to the effect of,"your views will be challenged if you cannot handle this please stay off."
With that discalaimer, I came with thick skin. However I have found that most people that post are great people.

    2. I have learned that some people leave this board because their views are challenged ( I have left twice myself so maybe my skin is not always thick). I think that many that said that they would never post again have come back.

    3. Unless there is a "papacy" type of church govt. there will always be a variety of interpretations on any subject.

First, I have not learned what all the different Baptist "denomination" letters stand for ...

    I've learned :-
So many different baptists ... some of them very gracious christians, some not so .

Sadness that some get abusive when people disagree with them

Conservative Christianity is confused with Conservative American Polotics.

Some very encouraging christians post on this board :)

A lot of knowledge on the scriptures is held collectively by the board members

Many are going to be horribly upset when God doesn't bring about the second comming in accordance withtheir plans and charts ....

Sadnesss at the passion people have in insisting on a particular mode of dress, or a particular type of music, or a certain version of the bible.

Love the thought of meeting so many in heaven :)

    Regards
    Bob
