These boys, if found guilty, need to be punished as far as the law allows.

I know you, and many others, hate Jackson and Sharpton, but c'mon, do you want these boys punished or not? Do you think it really matters if this two year old was black or white or any other race? If the victim is black, and either Sharpton or Jackson gets involved because it looks like the boys will be exonerated, are you really going to side with the perps? How will that help the situation? As media and power hungry these two men may be at times it does not mean they are always wrong. Wrong for stepping in, maybe, but not about the situation.

Now I thought the perp was caught, and it was two like 11 or 12 year olds. Am I wrong, did I get two stories mixed up ?

Honestly I don't know. I read the original story before it was even poted on this board, and it was so terribly disturbing and sad that I have not wanted to read more about it. I have chosen to rather pray for the victim and his family and that the authorities caught and prosecuted the perp(s).

If that's the case, I can imagine that the kids who did it were trying to vandalize a slide, not maim a two year old. Perhaps a good punishment would be 40 hours volunteer work in a burn ward.

Oh my goodness! This is horrible. That poor child.

Reckless endangerment for the perps. mmmmm How does this line up with what happened to the poor little kid who got on the slide and is facing skin grafts?

I work with kids and I know if the penalty isn't stiff, for most of them, it doesn't have an impact. This should have an impact. I think the community service at the burn ward is a good idea. Our actions have consequences. Going off and leaving chemicals where little kids play . . . .

I'm not seeing where these kids deliberately tried hurting the little boy. It seems more like they were being "boys", playing with things they shouldn't be playing with, and as is often the case, somebody got hurt.

Yes, it sounds like the kids did this with about as much forethought as is usual for American adolescents in the early 21st century. Unfortunately most teenagers are not taught much responsibility. This pair just happened to fulfill our worst fears for that age group, that is all.

But it was seriously hurt. What if they had taken a car for a joy ride and killed someone? I still think stiff consequences are in order. "Boys will be boys" is for the birds. I'm not saying we need an arm or a leg, but I do like the idea of a week's worth of community service in a burn ward. They need to see the effect of walking off and leaving that drain cleaner where they left it.

I just want to know what the consequences for reckless endangerment are.

    Agreed

The punishment needs to fit the crime to the extent of what they have been charged with. Intent should be factored into every charge and sentence.

No, none of that boys will be boys business from me.

Kids scare me these days. They need a good whomp between the eyes.

    When was this?

But really the issue in saying this is not forgiveness. We do them a favor to give them a wakeup call. I hope you realize I did not mean to literally physically hit them between the eyes. It is an expression.

    Awww, Tiny.

I am sure you can also see that burning these kids with acid would be a punishment worthy of Vlad the Impaler. I hope that early post of rbell's was just empty rhetoric. If I am alone in that, it is time to reconsider my reconsideration of an earlier reconsideration to leave Baptist Board for all time. Sometimes this place is just over the top.

    Caning...

(Well, that's all I wanted to say, but the board won't let me. I had to add some words.)

Anger, lack of self discipline, no respect for and fear of authority. When the parents who are the first line of authority do not expect good behavior then the kids are angry and without boundaries. I have had students who have few boundaries. It is great to see what happens when you begin to help them in that area. There is a direction in their life and a sense of purpose when that happens. A lot of young people want adults to help them set up boundaries so they can be successful. They want to know what is right and wrong. The are still learning.

Sometime go to a sports event and see how the adults conduct themselves. Young people are watching those adults and determine right and wrong by what they see adults doing.

Remember the kid who vandalized some cars in I think it was Singapore? His parents supported him and came against the foreign government. If I remember right Clinton supported the kid too. Then the kid came home and did the same thing here.

Years ago a lady asked me about the main problem with young people. I told her the main problem is that people have not made the authority the authority. I still hold that 30 years later.

A wore out rear often works well. When a kid feels pain he will remember it better.

Years ago when I was pastoring I had two parents who came to me and asked for help in discipling their older child. The parents did not agree on discipline. The kid was caught on a military base stealing. He had been truant many times from school. The kid seemed to respond to me because I did not tolerate disrespect and he knew I would not allow it. I also tried to help him in a personal way and he repsonded.

One day I got a phone call from someone who told me the church had been broken into. So I phoned the police. Immediately after the police went to the kid's house and confronted him. Because the police came the parents were mad at me. Tey caleld the deacons and I got a call from one of the deacons telling me hoiw wrong I was in doing that. I was told that by the parents and two deacons in front of the kid. To this day that kid has not come around. He has been in and out of jail.

The problem is we have too many parents who want disciplined kids but when it comes right down to it they are babies raising babies. They have not weaned their kids yet.

"The person who does not have the guts to say no should never be given the authority to say yes."
