What Instruments Do You Play?

Guitar, Mandolin & Trumpet. I own several electric guitars that I no longer even touch. I really can't explain why. Matbe because of what they represent to me. I own a very nice Martin acoustic that I'm playing to the glory of God. I had to start just about at square one, to get rid of the rock&roll feel of my playing. My favorite thing to do is play my acoustic with the 2 violinists at our church. My first love has to be the mandolin. Trumpet is for the brass quintet at church. We have one of those Conn trombones in the group & I love it!!!!

 

I play keys, bass, 6 and 12 string guitar, drums, recorder, and sing, write and compose. I have played for about 20 years.

 

Gifted ? If music is a gift, where can I return it ?

Seriously, music requires a great amount of sacrifice & even pain to learn all of those finger positions. It's like a calling, to me anyways. I do enjoy playing music, sometimes, & sometimes I don't want to play, but have to anyway. I imagine it's like any calling. There must be times when you don't want to preach, but have to, because that is your calling.

Am I way off ?

 

Sacrifice and pain---yep. I can remember before i got my piano bench, I was having painful practices because my chair was too low, and my wrists slumped, which made it very painful...
Sacrifice, yes! Because it is hard to find the time with everything else I have to do. Oh, the money for lessons is a sacrifice to for me. But, it's not a big enough deal to make me stop paying for them.

I am learning to play the piano.
I feel as if I started thirty or fourty years too late. I have been taking lessons from a wonderful teacher since last June. Next week I hope to get out of the Adult one book.
When I was in high school I played the cymbals. Actually, when I was a senior I needed to fill a space in my schedule so I signed up for band. I probably enjoyed that class more than any other in school. I wish that I had been in band sooner.
I took classical guitar lessons when I was in my 20's but my hands were too small and I never could get things to work right.
Yes my hands are too small to play the piano too but my teacher is helping me to compensate. My husband doesn't enjoy my piano practicing. He tells me that my voice is the the most wonderful instrument he has ever heard...and for me to stick to it.

 

Flute is my principal instrument, but I also play piano, clarinet, bassoon and a lot of others I just tinker with.

Hi All,
I play Piano, had lessons for a few years...and teaching myself the rest. I can play fairly well, and have been asked to play in a few churches, but stage fright and lack of practice time, sap my confidence.
My new goal for that is to learn to play AND sing at the same time!!

I also play guitar...but most of my time is spent tuning it, since I *think* a string needs replacing but I don't know anything about guitars!
Basically I can play "Twinkle, Twinkle"
If I had the time for lessons I would definitely take them...along with doing a billion other things.
But I am learning in my spare time.

I have been playing the piano for 57 years. I took piano and organ in college. I have a minor in music. The number of hours equal to a major, but not enough required course work. Yes, hard work. In college, to get credit, I had to practice three hours per day. I took some private lessons, non credit, because I didn't have three hours per day to practice. I now play the organ for our church.

 

I have attempted to play the piano for about 10 years, so far, it is only for my enjoyment. Someday I hope to be good enough to play for Sunday School or church. Once upon a day, I strummed an acoustic guitar.

 

Personally I play the gigglebox. What you NEVER heard of a gigglebox? Well they come in all shapes and sizes, but mine is a beautiful 2 1/2 year old girl who sits on my lap, I tickle her under the chin, and her giggles are the most beautiful music I have ever heard.

Where do I start?

Well....

My first instrument is the flute, followed by the zylophone, the marimba, the snare drum, the cymbals, the bass drum, the alto saxophone, the clarinet for a few moments, the trumpet for a few moments, the trombone for a few moments, definitley the tape player and cd player and the radio,

But my most favoritest instrument that God has allowed me and blessed me on how to use would be........

my VOICE!!! nothing like singing praises to God.

Did I mention that I played....

But seriously, my primary instrument is the flute, which I first learned how to play in fifth grade. During that time my class had to learn how to play recorders, and then during my eigth grade year I was able to learn how to play percussion, all of percussion, and about two or three months later I began taking piano lessons.

During my freshman year of High School I learned to use my voice musically and then in my sophmore year of High School I learned how to play the alto sax.

God has blessed me with the ability to quickly learn how to play several instruments, and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Bill, I like your post. I watch two little ones every Thursday and when their laughter fills my ears I know that all the hard times that they give me, and all the "I hate yous" that they say to me are worth it because you know in that moment that something has truly touched their hearts and I was fortunate enough to be in the same room to watch their lives change, even if it is just minute.

I still keep my hand in on piano, and recorder

But I used to play flute, orchestral bells, and
I tinkered with ukelele; as they seemed to keep
their tuning far better then the guitar I kept trying to learn

 

Guitar, piano, mandolin, a little banjo and one or two fills on steel guitar.

I don't see anywhere in the New Testament where those instruments are authorized.

But seriously, I play a little acoustic guitar.

 

I began singing solos in my church at the age of 18 months. I sang the Alphabet song (ABCDEFG, Jesus died for you and me) on a Sunday night. When I was 3, I sang my first Sunday morning solo - "He's still working on me." I've been singing ever since.

My mother made me take piano for 12 years until I graduated from high school, so I can play that, along with the organ, although I don't care for a lot of organ music (Toccata and Fugue in D minor by Bach is a lot of fun, though!)

I played trumpet in band, because my dad was a trumpet major in college. AFter I got braces, I learned the trombone, and was a trombone and voice major in college. I didn't like that very much, so I dropped the music major, although I still played trombone in the jazz band.

Later, I picked up the acoustic guitar and lead a Wednesday worship service with it.

But, my favorite "instrument" is my voice. I'm a natural tenor, but I can sing bass as well, but only if they need me to at church!

 

I sing and play piano. I sing first soprano, can sing second, can sing alto, and when I really try I can to tener, but my voice was definatly meant to be soprano. A break glass high one at that!
I taught myself to play piano a litte over a year ago. I can't read music worth anything. In fact I tried piano lessons to help, but I got so confused I had to stop. I now can play anything if I've heared a few times. I'm not that good at key changes in the middle of a song, but I'm working on that.
Pray for me, because tommorrow I'm going to sing and play piano at the same time at church. I'm a little nervous!

Sax, clarinet, anything brass with valves, piano and percussion.

I still have a baritone sax, 2 trumpets, a flugel and a TS-10. I have several hand made instruments like an ocarina, recorder and drums.
