Committess have their place -
BUT things can get excessive.

For example - there was a IFB church here in the Salt City.
About 250 members - The church had about 15 committees (ratio 1:16)

Well, the Pastor who had Pentecostal leanings (along with some other issues)
left the church and took about 30 % of the church with him. At the same time 3 other
splinter groups took a total of about another 100. - thus there were about 75 people left.
yet they still had the same 15 committees (ratio 1::5). They should have made some changes.

Now - back when they had the full 250 members - one committee - say the bldg and grounds committee.
So they need a new lawn mower and snow plow - So the budget allows that committee to spend 1,500 dollars a year.
With having the committee - the 7 men - can decide which mower and plow they get without needing to present it to the full church - where -someone is liable to have complain because his Uncle Bill can give a better deal ( but no warranty)
Committees spend more time and energy talking about doing something than it takes to just do it.

and some things need time - to make a good decision.
Some things do. Most don't.

I give you an example of how annoying house and grounds committees are. My father in law is a retired contractor. He makes cabinets and ultra high end furniture. He was on house and grounds committee. Committee ordered new front doors for church. He was installing them when another committee member drove by. Member asked him "Don't you think entire committee should be here while door is installed?" Father in law said No, he didn't need them. Member said " I think we all need to be here." Father in law said "Ok, y'all put the doors up." Member said "You are only one who knows how. Father in law said "You better learn how because it's yours." He left and church had no front doors or door frames for three days. Pastor kept calling FIL begging him to put up doors. Father in law refused. Said "Tell your know it all committee members to put them up." Church had to hire contractor to put in door frames and doors.
Anyone that knows anything about construction knows you don't question a master tradesman in their trade unless you are also a master tradesman.
If you not the building inspector, it won't go well.

At my church, and this is from years ago, and may not reflect current practice, our speakers messages were not pre-screened. Of course we invited those whose teachings we thought were sound. And I recall one speaker we had used on multiple occasions being put on the "lets not invite again" list because one of his tenets did not ring true.

Then why is he getting paid by his church. My pastor is in his office every day preparing his messages.

And it’s also shameful how quiet this board is on this whole issue. Do y’all use others work too?
"… on the shoulders of giants."

One is not a disciple, if he has not been using the work of others.

However, the pretense of not being dependent on others would be a shame.
