The gospel is the message of eternal life, not the means.

Romans 10:17 KJV
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Its the On to whom the message points towards, the Lord Jesus
There's nothing new about the 'deliverance' (salvation) that adherence to the gospel provides:

But there is something 'new' revealed, not found, (to my knowledge) in the OT...
Galatians 1:8-9 (KJV) But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
So we better have the true Gospel.

Romans 1:16, . . . the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; . . .
Jesus Cross still the object of the Faith, as His death and resurrection was and is the very basis of salvation

1 Corinthians 15:1-4, ". . . the gospel . . . that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: . . . "
Right there, ther basis and object of saving faith is Jesus, his death and resurrection period

Be specific. In your opinion, what is required for one to know in order to escape 'eternal damnation'? The bare minimum.
