Kentucky 80, Tennessee 78 Wednesday night at Knoxville. Little-used Brandon Stockton pulled some late heroics. You'll read about it. It was great game, both teams scratching and clawing.

Congrats to UK. Big win. Defnitely a huge win for y'all. I'm a little upset that Rajon Rondo's intentional foul on JuJuan Smith wasn't called as such (and I'm very impressed that Tubby benched Rondo for the blunder), but Rondo and Morris absolutely carried UK on its back. Holding UT's vaunted trio of Watson, Lofton and Smith to 15 pts each was huge.

My boys need to win at Vandy Saturday to build some momentum going into the SEC tournament.

Congratulations to LSU for winning the regular season crown outright.

I agree that UK will be dangerous if they continue to play as they have been. I see them going to the sweet sixteen, if they keep it up.

Well, today I am not getting the UK Florida game and the best senior day in the country will be missed. Here in Texas they are giving us Nova and Syracuse? What non-fan of either school would want to see that game versus UK? So as we say good-bye to Sparks, LeMaster, Moss, and Stockton on senior day below you can hear what we will miss for those who do not get this game televised:

Hey, SBC? How 'bout now? Overall, who be da' #1 'PRO- gram'- 'er I means 'program' in the country for the regular season, anyhow? I'll give ya' 'bout five to seven choices fer dis year. GW? Done checked the records and they seems to have the best, although I think their schedule was not as strong, as I was not impressed with a couple of their one and two point wins. I'd say it's purty much wide open, and any of a handful o' teams could win it all, at the Dance, depending on which players decide to 'suit-up' and ain't afraid to sweat a little. Although I don't think it'll happen, wouldn't it be a king-size kick-in-the-head if Cincy or IU was to win it all?

    Heh! Heh!

UK stunk it up again today and once again we were outcoached, outhustled, outshot, outrebounded, etc... We are so inconsistent and lazy at times it sickens me as a diehard fan.

I don't even know what to expect for the tournament any longer, but will be cheering them on regardless.

Ed, I was talking about the #1 program overall in college basketball, not just for this season. And I still stand by the fact that it is Duke.

You were sure awful quiet during the time that Duke was ranked #1 in the country, huh? [IMG]

Actually, I was hoping to get someone to respond who is a fan of GW. But I stand By, as I did overall, UConn, at the moment, until some shows they are clearly inferior. FTR, I suddenly, a month and a half later don't think it is a complete pipe dream, that UNC could repeat, as to the quality of the team. But it ain't gonna happen. Duke with the Back to Back championships wil have little to worry about for many years, if ever, in that Department, IMO. Aside from the unbelievable seven year run by UCLA, You've had exactly three repeat schools since I've been following College BB at the Div. I level, UC 61,62; UCLA 64,65; and Duke. UNC ain't gonna make it four. And teams far better, IMO, than any around today, for their day, didn't get it done, including IU in 75,76. And I seriously doubt any team out there this year could beat the Blue Devils or the Runnin' Rebels of the early 90s or even NC last year.

Don't forget that UK went to the title game three straight years from 1996-1998 and they won it all in 96 and 98... and should have won it in 97.

If they play their best they are still capable of winning some games in this years tourney, but I know that is a big if...

Blame '97 on the coach-- Let's see what was his name? Dang, I forget! Last I heard he was coaching at some place just down the road, if'n I remembers righ... Anyhow some guy with a city name like Atlanta or Jackson or something like that with a last name of Jones or Brown or somethin' like that came in after him, and brought his kid along for the ride, and made him the back-up point guard, and took the last five guys from the leftover bench-sitters of that '96 team, as a nucleus, and won another championship. Let's see if'n I can remember who they was. And relate 'em back to '96. You had one person who was a budding super-star, and most everybody knew it, who'd go on to be a pretty fair pro player as well. Y'had a 6'11"- 300 plus # center that most everybody figured was a blatant waste of a scholarship, as a freshman, who'd also turn out to be a fair pro, Y'had a point guard that could barely stand up as a freshman, 'cause of all the splinters, he got off the benches, y'had a "two guard" that had been the starting point guard for two years who wound up as the two, because they couldn't find anybody else who could play it; and y'had a 'budding preacher', who never saw a shot that he didn't like, or a defensive assignment that he did. Let's see I believe the names were Mercer, Muhammed, Turner, Epps, and Mills, if I remember right. Pretty unlikely bunch to build on for a title, I'd say. And oh yeah, now I think I 'member that coach's name - I believe it is Orlando Smith. Ain't all that good a coach, some say. Might not even win more'n 2/3 of his games, this year, if that. Worst year He ever had. Pitiful! But you know, I believe I did read something that his overall winning percentage in 10 years, even with that, is higher than that of KY over all the years, at about 77.5% versus 76.4% for all the KY BB history. And that he's never had anywhere near as bad a season, even with this one, as his four immediate predecessors had in their worst season, going back about 75 years. [IMG]

    Ed,

    I'll remind you. [IMG]

His name is RICK PITINO and he now coaches the LOUISVILLE CARDINALS :D :D

You know, the team whom he coached to the FINAL 4 last year, with more to come. [IMG]

Yep, he stills has the touch. This year is just a bump in the road.

But I hope Kentucky gets it going and makes a run in the tournament, cause Louisville sure isnt going anywhere this year.

I just dont know which team is going to show up from game to game. The team that beat Tennessee at UT, or the...*other* team. :(

</font>[/QUOTE]FTR, D-GUY, Ive met his wife, Mrs. Joanne Pitino, two times in my work. I'm virtually positive that her first name is Joanne, although I could be mistaken, here. After almost having a stroke some months agao , I could still be experiencing faulty memory, but I don't think so, here.

Interestingly enough, I also know Donna Smith, and C.M. Newton, although I've never met Tubby, nor the late Mrs. Newton, as well.

Latest news on the IU coaching position: Isaiah Thomas was on campus and talked to the President and AD. He is believed to be interested in the job. Also, Rick Pitino and John Calipari have expressed interested in the job.

Do you mean in history or current? UCLA has the history and 11 NCAA titles.

I am speaking of right now in 2006 the #1 college basketball program in the country is Duke, IMO.

No doubt historically speaking UCLA is right up there at the top. But at the current time UCLA is a shell of its former self.

I never said he was going anywhere.

CBSSportsline reported that people in the IU system had touched base with Pitino and he expressed an interest in being considered for the job.

I think Pitino would come to IU if he was offered the position. He has not had a history of staying at one place for a long time.

It would be a monumental mistake by IU to hire Isaiah Thomas as coach. In every position he's had, including his current stint as GM of the Knicks, he's been abysmal.

I agree completely! I am not really sure who I like, but no doubt Thomas is not on the list. I personally would like to see them get a guy that has already been a successful coach in a program.
