What is wrong with me?

I finally got back to my home church, traditional , very conservative baptist church. I was looking for two things when deciding where to end up worshipping. Well two things among many others, but the two were , How the church views and feels about halloween, and the level of committment to Sunday evening service.
Well I dont know what got into me, but lately I just dont want to go back at night on a sunday. I feel like a hypocrite, like I am being lazy, and not a good Christian. It could be the winter, I do tend to be in bed no later than 7 pm at n ight, read my bible or go online. But I should be in church on Sunday nights, and I just dont feel like it. Wed night bible study is easier for me to make sure I am there, but lately, Sunday nights is a chore and a half.

I don't know how old you are, but I am well over the hill and I know what you mean. I am glad our church has Sunday night service at 6 p.m. I have an idea we would lose several people on Sunday night if we met at 7 p.m. We stream our services live and some people stay out and watch at home on Sunday night. I have done it when not feeling my best, but it's not the same.

I don't know you, so no dime store psychology here, but I think sometimes we are tempted in the areas that we have deemed to be important. It just seems to work that way. When I feel like a hypocrite, then I don't witness like I should, etc, etc. I have found the best thing to do is to get it right (if you think you are sinning, then it is a sin to you) as soon as possible and pray and make yourself go when those feelings come based on the fact that God is worthy. I have done that in some of my situations and the Holy Spirit shows up and helps me. I know He will do the same for you. Prayers for you, brother, as we all struggle in areas.

I'd like to suggest the possibility that your focus needs adjusting. Perhaps the reason Sunday evening service is an issue for you is because you (perhaps subconsciously)know that you may have placed to much important on this issue in your church hunt?

Basically, when I started stripping away all my preferences on minor things and sought the basics from a church life became a whole lot easier.

When I can find a verse in Scripture that says that I must be in church on Sunday night, I will.

I understand your concern because you placed a high priority on this one factor but I think you're seeing that at this point in your life, this one priority doesn't fit with your health. Yes, I'm saying health. If your body is telling you to be in bed every night by around 7pm, there is a reason. It sounds like you are a morning person - and most likely get up early. That is great. I'm SO not a morning person - but I don't like to be out at night very much, especially in the winter. I like to be home with the family. I try to be home almost every night and only occasionally go out at night. It's just who I am.

Don't measure your faithfulness on the Sunday evening service. Allow yourself to stay home, be in the Word and be close to the Lord.

Sminasian, I have membership with a very good church with a pastor that teaches. Really enjoyable attending but..., on occasion, I'm like you. It's hard to get moving an a Sunday Evening.

I am a firm believer however that being a Christian should not be a burden. If you don't feel like attending then don't. Chances are you've been lead over the years and fallen victim to the Guilt Trips.

Take it to the Lord and let Him clear it up for you.

Whew! The man said it was important to him, a conviction if you will and most people are trying to talk him out of his conviction. Ok. You don't have to join a church that meets on Sunday night, but if that is your conviction and the church does meet, it it optional? I mean, if Sunday night is optional, then Wednesday night and Sunday morning are optional also, correct? I think not.

Me thinks....

....if everyone on this forum were to be candid, transparent and honest, you would see that you are not the first, and you will not be the last person to be hit with spiritual burnout.

It usually has nothing to do with your relationship with God, but rather the brick-and-mortar church in general. Sometimes, we reach a saturation point, and just like with a job; we tend to get tired out and the desire to play hooky or even quit comes over us.

Prayer, and patience in allowing the Holy Ghost to work on what is going on within you is the key to getting back to something that resembles the person you vaguely remember. And the truth is, maybe you may never again be gung-ho on attendance.

We all go through rough patches in life, and it is our faith that brings us through. Until that happens, draw close to Him by reading the Word, playing your Christian albums, and praying. Even spend time fellowshipping with folks from your church. That is one way to get back to your normal self.

Ok thank you all for your help. First of all, I am a female LOL second, I am 49 and 3/4 years old. I have fibromyalgia and low b12. Those two things are what makes me want to stay home at night and get cozy and relax. Our service IS at 6pm, and at 5 pm , especially in the winter, I would much rather be getting into my pjs and cuddling in bed than putting panty hose and a dress back on to go to church,. I am NOT a morning person. No one with fibro is. Seems to me the enemy is working over time.

I DO have strong convictions about Sunday evening service. There may come a day when I long to be in church on a Sunday evening and CAN NOT get there, or the churches in America may reach the point where they are no longer offering Sunday evening services and then what? I don't want to sit back and wonder" what if", yet I cant stay awake long enough to go back to church on a Sunday n ight.

I get b12 shots, take vitamins, and still, come 5 pm, I am ready for bed. This is not easy for me, especially since I am so bent on a church with strong convictions for things like this. Now the Lord led me home to my church and I am one of the very people who dreads the sunday service. How do you all think I feel? I feel awful about it.

And btw, my pastor preaches SO good, its not a matter of staying interested when i am there, it is a matter of STAYING AWAKE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GET THERE. Know what I mean? :BangHead:

...not a female, of course; but a chronic pain sufferer. I have severe neuropathy and fibromyalgia. Most of the time, my pain is severe enough or annoying enough to keep me in a safe, quiet place. I do not feel like being around others when my pain is raging.

Our pastor is super great at preaching too, so our church makes his sermons available on-line for those who can't make it to church.

Due to my progressive disability, I had to cease going to churches to minister in music, something that I thought nothing would ever stop me from doing other than death itself.

I guess that God makes provisions for folks like us, and we just have to be as close to Him as possible, without the perks of a warm, fuzzy church and neat people to talk with. I'd much rather be there, believe me, but pain, and medication to take the edge of the pain, makes going to church a little more trying today than just ten years ago.

Hang in there and do what your body and the presence of the Spirit within you allow you to do. And know that God does know the depth of our heart, and that is all that matters.

Pain is extremely tiring, and it wears away at your mind and stamina. You have my prayers and thoughts.
