All this talk of coffee and cottage cheese makes me hungry. So how about jam? Or jelly? Which is your favorite? I can't name them all, so tell us if yours is not here.

I voted strawberry, but it's actually my second favorite, first would be pineapple when I can find it sugar free.

Whats the difference between preserves and jam?

With preserves you get real fruit, much better flavor if you ask me. Here is a description of the differences from Smuckers.

Q. What is the difference between jelly, jam, and preserves?

A. JELLY is made from fruit juice. Jelly is clear and firm enough to hold its shape when turned out of its container.

JAM is made from a blend of crushed pieces of fruit and fruit puree.

PRESERVES contain whole or large pieces of fruit, making them thicker and more fruit-filled than jams or jellies.

MARMALADE is jelly with shreds of citrus fruit peel.

CONSERVES are jams made from a mixture of citrus fruits and can also include nuts.

FRUIT BUTTERS are made from fruit pulp and sugar cooked together. There is no butter in fruit butter. The term may have developed to describe the appearance of the product or because it is a spread.

CHUTNEY and RELISH are flavorful, seasoned condiments with a consistency similar to jam. Chutney is typically made with fruits and relish is typically made with vegetables.

Any kind of jam except traffic.
Any kind of jelly as long as there is no 'bean' or 'roll' on the end.

No, I seldom have either of them, but grape would be the choice if I do.

Why can't I choose dulce de leche. Some English translations call this "milk jam". And its eaten the same way as jam: on toast in the morning.

I think this poll is biased to just north american taste buds.

I voted Blackberry Jam but I prefer it with the seeds left in.

Also a fave of mine is Black Raspberry Jam.

Thanks for the definitions, I've always wondered. I think when it comes to strawberry and pineapple I want preserves then.
About butters, I ate some pumpkin butter a few years ago and it is wonderful, even better then apple butter. A lady at the farmers market I know made what was supose to be a cantaloupe(I'm not a big cantaloupe fan, but this was really good) preserve, and it was more like a butter, to me and everyone else, whichever it qualified for, I would eat that again.

Your welcome Donna, and I agree some of the homemade items we stumble across are often the best.

I voted strawberry, but that is second to BLACKCURRANT, especially when it is not too sweet
I make my own fruit preserves , and last year had just finished making rhubarb and ginger, when I found myself with a small quantity of rhubarb left over. As I had not added any ginger to this I added some redcurrants , and made rhubarb and redcurrant preserve ......half and half by weight....... it was delicious.:love2:
PS what about (home made ) lemon curd ?

Well, I'm North American. :tongue3:

Also, the maximum number of choices you can give are 10. I had to put on the most popular. Dulce de leche is hardly a popular choice here. Sorry.

I almost put Lemon curd on but there was not enough room. :wavey:

A poll is limited to 10 choices so I tried to put what I thought was the most common or popular. But I see a lot of the ones on the list have no votes.

Later, I might have to do a part 2 and put these other kinds on - rhubarb, ginger, blackcurrant, etc.

People here on the BB sure have eclectic tastes!

I voted for Raspberry Jam. Growing up my family had a patch of raspberry bushes that kept us in raspberrys for a long time. My Mother would make the best Raspberry Jam and as I grew up and it came to pass that was the only kind of jam I would eat, and it still is.

Suggestion for next poll: Toast, English Muffins, or Bagels?
