I understand, however there is the possibility and circumstance that I just might fulfill your definition of "malicious". If I were in a position of authority such as a pastor and through heart felt concern for the flock was backed into a corner as to making a choice as to recommending fellowship or disfellowship with an "evolutionist" then I might have to act in a "malicious" manner though even in this case it would be still be of conviction and duty to protect the flock and I would be grieved. It is only malicious when you use your convictions as a guide to determine who is a “true believer” and who is not.
Ultimately we have to answer to Him for the deeds done in the body as to whether our motives were pure relating to our various ministries as under-shephards of His flock or defiled by self-importance, peer-pressure, financial gain, etc.
In addition we are told in various ways to watch for the evil one and his disguises: wolves in sheeps clothing, swine and our pearls, etc.
In this I will agree: motive, it means almost (underline almost) everything. If my motive is wrong then it will be obvious to most folk (and unbeknown to me) so, I agree in this respect, that we must pay close attention to others and their perception of our motives, especially our "enemies" , your "enemies" are more apt to tell you the truth than your friends. Some one else said that, I forget who.
