What should a Christian school teach

Watching a re-run of "Highway To Heaven"

The church council voted teachers must be of the same faith
and that religion will be taught - even to preschoolers.

Many teachers left the school -either because they were not of the faith
or they stood in defense of the teachers who left.

The "Angel" (Michael Landon) was opposed to the new policy

Towards the end - the pastor made a decision - that religion will be taught - even to the
preschoolers - but not just Christianity - but all religions will be taught.

The final thing the pastor stated was that it would be up to the church (not just a committee) as to the actual policy. The pastor stated that he would allow the congregation to make the decision. He then excused himself so the church could decide. It only took a few minutes and the church agreed to accept the pastors plan.

So if you had been in this situation - what would you have done?

Here is the You-tube full 45 minute program:

Would Jesus teach another gospel, or did He say He was the way, and no one came to the Father except through Him. So to teach as valid other religions such as Atheism is nonsense.

Another point has to do with a Pastor operating independently of the consent of the members, or a school operating independently from those governing the school. If the parents do not choose the school which has their curriculum of choice, then we have tyranny.

If you think about it, the only way we can actually enjoy the freedom presented in the First Amendment, i.e freedom of the free exercise of religion, is school choice. Now, the government wants to secretly teach what the parents would reject if they knew it was being taught.

The wife and I agree with Classical Christian Education in general.

We think all teachers should be Christians. Catholics should only be accepted on a case-by-case basis if at all.

No other religions should be taught, as they're all lies, and teaching children lies is a horrible idea. The Christian Religion should be taught to all people from infancy up to the elderly.

I would not want to be teaching false religions to young children - at least until the 7th or 8th grade.
Any teacher in a Christian school should be born again.
Even for secular subjects.

Highway to Heave is a good show - but they blew it on this one!

Btw at one time, You HAD to be a believer to teach in public schools

also, my understanding is that to be an Officer in the US Military, you had to be a believer. Not sure when that changed

I believe it was true for judges at one time

Yes, those running the schools should be able to dictate or if you will choose, those to employ as teachers. And yes, parents should be able to choose which school their children attend. If a parent must send his or her child to a school teaching atheism, that is a clear cut violation of the 1st Amendment. Too bad SCOTUS has been unable to figure that out!!!

Disagee - if they are sent to a public school - they will be taught evolution. In addition, I have no problem with a Christian teaching giving a class on evolution - provided they do it from a theory point of view.

In the TV program -it was mentioned that the SCOTUS had ruled that a religious school can have its own standards for hiring a teacher.

Should I have used if parents must send their child...?
Did I say parents could not choose to send their child to a school teaching life from non-life as a theory? Nope.
SCOTUS has not ruled public (government) schools must be funded by vouchers from parents who chose that school? Thus we do not now have our First Amendment rights.
