I believe that no one should be allowed in a swimming pool unless at a minimum they are wearing a nose plug!

Wonder how Americans would react, if that were the policy in the USA?

I know someone who took his family swimming at the beach. He and his sons wore long pants and loose fitting shirts. His wife and daughter wore long dresses. He bragged about how modest they had been.

I mentioned the difficultly of swimming in loose clothes, and the hazzards of ocean currents. He didn't care about danger to his family, as long as he could very publlicly show off his "modesty".

Personally, I do not care if I ever see another beach or swimming pool. Having grown up on a coast, and spent some time in the Navy, I like to travel to deserts and mountains.

What gets me more than the temptation that may cross a mind when seeing someone in a skimpy swimming outfit, is the dried up old looking prunes wearing a skimpy bathing suit. They think their body looks good. It ought to be against the law to display some of these masterpieces. Now, which do I want to deal with, dismissing a tempting thought if someone who looks decent passes by in a small bathing suit, or dealing with throwing up if a dried up old prune passes by in his leopard skin tight thong?

So, is this modest enough?

Yep, it's sad that Muslims are nearly the sole voice for modesty in public places.

You have a good point there. Muslims, evil as they are, know what modesty is. Now, I would not want to live in a society where every woman was wearing a face mask, but we could moderate our dress, especially as Christians.

It starts in the home. Parents have control over what their kids wear until they are 18, and this is where I see the breakdown. Now, after they are adults, they are going to do what they are going to do. Parents of today dress their kids in these skimpy outfits before the kids even are aware of what is going on in this area. Parents let their kids watch commericals programmed for the same type of thinking, filthy TV shows, movies, internet etc, so what do you expect the final product to be after 18?

It is bad enough we are born with a sin nature. It gets much, much worse when children are taught to nurture that sin nature into every area of their lives. Some people were just not meant to be parents.

Welcome to Central Texas. Please forgive the expansive beaches that once were water-lapped shores.
Yes, it's modest enough. And for all those whose lively-hoods depend on the water, fishing, fishing equipment, bait, boats, water-craft rentals, etc., please find a smiley where you turn out bloody when you hit the sand below the bridge. Thanks for demeaning our problem here in Central Texas and showing the world your Christian attitude towards us. We really appreciate the fact that you think it's funny that we are losing money and our lively-hoods here. Keep up the good work! Your friend, Bob. P.S. Whenever you get a chance, let me show you the deeper holes around the Colorado river. You ought to get a kick jumping off the bridges there.

This is a swimming pool, not the sea. You're free to wear what you like on the beach (although I echo Saturneptune's plea re skimpy swimwear there - either one gets young ladies with curves in all the right places wearing them which is a temptation to sin, or old ladies with curves in all the wrong places which is a temptation to throw up; doubtless similar problems for women occur with men wearing the wrong stuff). But in French swimming pools, for hygiene reasons (and one can debate the merits of that), they have a policy of forbidding the wearing of unnecessarily large pieces of swimwear. Thus, for example, it was perfectly OK for my son and me to wear swim shorts on the beach, but in order to get into a public swimming pool, we had to wear Speedos or the equivalent when we were on vacation there. The French government are saying that this is not discriminatory, and I agree: it applies equally to all regardless of whether you have a faith or none at all.

Hey, no problem. Any state that sent us George W Bush an Lyndon Baines Johnson gets exactly what it deserves.

YOU HAVE PUBLICLY CALLED ME A LIAR. I take great offense at that. You were not there. You don't know me or the person to whom I was speaking.

I have no need to defend my statment. I was there for the entire conversation.

I don't doubt it, I can think of several people right now who would fight that very description. Having spent 18 months on deputation, we encountered legalism to the nth degree. My wife personally talked to a lady who used to wear sweat pants to bed, but "came under conviction" and now only wears floor length gowns, so that she can be sure that she is "modest" in her own bed, in the privacy of her own home.

So yes, I find the statement very believable and I agree, you have accused Carolina Baptist of "bearing false witness".

Wow. I forgot all about this thread.

Yes, I doubt that he was boasting and that he didn't care for the safety of his family. I believe you are painting him blacker than he is.

The character of your protest reinforces that thought in my mind.

Bye. :type:

Interesting world in which you live. Because someone is offended by being called a liar, this comfirms in your mind that that person is, in fact, a liar. This tells me something of the character of your thinking.

I agree. I have seen the young lady from California who lost the contest because of her defense of marriage because of her Christian faith parade around in a bikini that reveals far too much!

I think bikini's are just too much showing,a little modesty needs be called for, but to make people dress like muslims is ridiculous, and a violation of religious rights.

I'm surprised that no one is upset that Muslim culture has such an influence.

The fact that it's modest is beside the point; one does not have to wear what they say to be modest. A false dichotomy is here between skimpy suits and these Muslim style suits.

Those on this thread in the U.S., would you really be okay if swimming pools had Muslim swim times and required you to dress like this if you wanted to swim??

After discovering the rules at Thornton Heath one Croydon resident, 34-year-old Alex Craig, said: "I think it is preposterous that a council should be encouraging this type of segregation over municipal facilities.
"Surely if Muslims want to swim then they should just turn up with their modest swimwear at the same time as everyone else."

Douglas Murray, director of the Centre for Social Cohesion, last night condemned the practice. He said: "This kind of thing is extremely divisive.
"Non-Muslims see these extremist demands as an example of Muslims wanting things to fit into their lifestyle, when there aren't similar things organised for Hindus, Buddhists or Jews.

The more Muslims are accommodated like this, the more they will push for other accommodations. Prayer rugs provided in schools? Calls to prayer from mosques in your city?

Already we are seeing here increasing numbers of women covering their faces. Yesterday at Target, the car next to me parked and out got a man and his young son. The wife exited afterwards, a veil over her face up to her eyes. This is not that unusual to see here.
