I guess I am gap impaired :D I read this post three times before I made the 'connection' between 'gap theory' and the above statement...Dr. Bob,

Interestingly enough both the churchfather Origen(es) and the Jewish philosopher Philo of Alexandria, were also into the Gap Theory. Making it quite a bit older than a simple late 19th century compromise with the World.

:( Sadly no.
Origenes has written I think 16 homilies on Genesis that survive to this day. His version of the gap theory is in one of them.
Almost 20 years have passed since I've read the collected works of that mad genius. I did my first thesis on that (former) man, so that's why I've read his collected works. Or at least what is left of them.

At the time I was studying Origenes, I've also read some of Philo's work that covered the same ground. In those days, their gap musings weren't of any great interest to me.

I'll say this about the legacy of Scofield. I'm heading out tonight to my concert band practice at Philadelphia Biblical University, where a portrait of Scofield hangs on the wall. While I did not attend college there, I have been associated with the institution since it was still Philadelphia College of Bible (formerly Philadelphia School of the Bible, home of Scofield). The great legacy of this man and others held forth by this institution has done much to bring countless people the world over into the Kingdom.
