Up until the early 20th century - children were an asset. During the mid 19th Century farmers accounted for about
50% of all Americans. Within these families a child would start working the farm at about age 5 or 6. In 1970, there
were less than 10 million farmers.

In our current lifestyle children are a liability. With Dad and/or Mom working away from home - the kids do not have the
chores that earlier kids had. In addition - in order to raise a child, the cost can be very high, The extra costs for the first
year could be 5-15,000 dollars (check this link)

In addition your life style - Suppose - a young lady sees another woman struggling with three young children at a C-store.
She just wants to go in to buy a gallon of milke and cand bars for the kids, and mom has to take one out of the car seat,
and the other two out of booster seats - as there is no way she will leave the kids unattended. and then mom struggles to
get the kids back into their appropriate seats. That young lady may have second thoughts about having children.
