40-ton 'fatberg' the size of a double-decker bus removed from London sewers

"LONDON -- A gigantic, sludgy mass the size of a double-decker bus has been removed -- by hand -- from the sewers of East London"

"The mass, known as a fatberg, forms when fat, grease and oil is poured down sinks and combines with items that should not be flushed down the toilet, such as wet wipes"

"'This was a massive and disgusting blockage that took a great deal of effort and teamwork to clear and get the sewer working well again', said Matt Rimmer, Thames Water’s head of waste networks....Speaking to the public, Rimmer said: 'We’d urge everyone to help...by only flushing the 3Ps - pee, poo and paper – as well as disposing of fat and oils in the bin, not the sink'."

they cling/stick to the walls of the pipes/tank and will eventually clog the whole system up. We use them but don't flush them.

Yes...

Sewer officials are urging homebound residents to think twice before flushing supposedly flushable wipes

"Stephen Renner, director of the Department of Sanitary Engineering in Franklin County, Ohio....said his county sewer system is seeing an increase in volume, which was expected given the number of people staying in their homes as part of efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus. 'It’s to everybody’s benefit to use toilet paper only', he said....toilet paper...is made to disintegrate quickly in water"

Wipes "don’t break down as readily, tend to clog pipes"

"Mike Saia, a communications manager at Charleston Water System in South Carolina....said problems occur because as customers flush the wipes, they are often covered in...waste, which coat them in a thick layer...and hinder them from breaking down."

Checked today, still out at the supermarket. Before I was born, they had a "run" banks. In the early 1970's, they had a run on gasoline. Today, its TP. But in the 1950's we still used (and washed) diapers so it is not the "end" of the world. Next there may be a run of those waste baskets with the pop up lids to control the smell in mean time. This too shall pass.

Can't forget the gas lines. At least we aren't there yet?! But, it could be a fact, soon!

Our cousin has 8 children, so naturally, we teased them that if the White House lowers the guideline below gatherings of 10 people, then they will need to stop having dinner together. :Laugh

Wipes wouldn’t be a problem if we had proper 2-3 gallon toilets. The idiots who brought us 1.2 gallon toilets are lying about the sewage clogs to make people feel bad.

I have the inside dope. The shortage is because the Democratic Party is planning to TP the White House and the offices and residents of all conservative members of congress.

Why the run on toilet paper?

I really hope it is not because society has just now suddenly discovered hygiene...

Seriously. Every store in our area does not have toiletpaper. As well as papwr towels. I can see papertowels, but, TP . This flu does not attack our digestive tract, it is URI, specifically.

So, let's get some ideas floating as to why the craze for toiletpaper. Winning response, or best explanation wins one new, unwrapped roll of toiletpaper. Not a pachage of TP, but one roll, which seems to be more valuable than gold.

Any thoughts are welcome. Agape my bros and sisters.

It is called panic buying. There is a cartoon circulating depicting two dinosaurs looking up at the sky, where a huge meteorite with a long flaming tail is barrelling down on top of the helpless dinosaurs. One dinosaur turns to the other and says, " quickly, go out and buy some toilet paper!".
