Eternal salvation was accomplished by Christ on the cross for all those that God gave to his Son, and all that he died for will live with him in heaven, without the loss of one. John 6:37-41.

So what do you want to discuss...or are you after JesusFan / DaChaser's record of started threads?

All of that is true, but if someone believes all of that, but does not go further, they will be eternally lost.

One must embrace Christ, through faith alone, to be saved.

You ask a question in the thread, and then proceed to answer it for us? Why did you even bother?

As for the OP's question: I received eternal life the very instant He saved my soul.

Actually I do not think that is totally correct.

Some scriptures indicate that we receive eternal life the moment we believe. Other scriptures refer to eternal life only after we die. Below are lists of scriptures to support both of these positions. I didn’t bother to type out descriptions of the Eternal Life Now scriptures because I am lazy and they are well known.

Eternal Life Only in the Future
Scriptures that can be used to support eternal life starting when you die include:
Mark 10:17 - The rich young man asked Jesus what to do to inherit eternal life.
Luke 10:25 - An expert of the law asked Jesus “What must I do to inherit eternal life?
Luke 18:18 - A certain ruler asked Jesus “What must I do to inherit eternal life?
Matt. 19:29 - Jesus talks about the blessings of this life and then says “and will inherit eternal life”.
Matt. 25:46 - Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.
Mark 10:30 - Jesus talks about blessings in this life and then He says “in the age to come, eternal life”.
Luke 18:30 - Jesus talks about blessings in this life and then He says “and, in the age to come, eternal life”.
Romans 2:7 - “To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life.”
Romans 2:21 - “….so that grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Titus 1;2 - Here Paul says “hope of eternal life” (Implies future tense).
Titus 3:7 - “so that, having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life”.
1 John 2:25 - “And this is what He promised us---even eternal life.”
Jude 21 - “Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.”
The above scriptures are specific about eternal life referring to the future life and not to the present life.

Eternal Life Now
Scriptures that can be used to support Christians having eternal life now include:
John 3:16, 3:36, 5:39, 6:40, 6:54, 10:28, 12:25, 17;2&3
1 Tim. 1:16
These scriptures talk about Christians having eternal life now.

drfuss, Apparently no one has told you that on the BB, you are not allowed to prove your statements with scripture...Rhetoric and grand statements about the inferiority of opposing views are all that we allow...sorry:laugh:

Oh yes, I forgot. Since there are scriptures on both sides of the issue, I guess i am supposed to pick one side and defend my interpretation of those sciptures; and then pick apart what the other scriptures say and develop some innovative interpretations to explain them away.

Hmmm. It may take me awhile to decide.

Christ's faith has saved us eternally by justifing us on the cross, Gal 2:16. Our faith is not the cause of our eternal salvation.

Simple question, When do think you received your eternal salvation?
Does what we think really count? How about what we know to be true. Salvation for me began the moment I submitted to the righteousness of God. Rom. 10:1-4

Maybe Brother Forest will give us his definition of eternal salvation.

Since he is a Primitive Baptist, he may have a different definition.

Otherwise we maybe talking apples and oranges.

Brother Forest?

Would say that biblically speaking on this OP...

receive eternal life as in the person of the HS indwelling us/sealing us/restoration of relationship/fellowship with God, at time of justification to God...

when have been reborn from above, byut the fullness/completetion of that eternal life after this life and in the Age to come!

I was disagreeing with that in bold.

Scripture. always scripture.

And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

How? Well it says, "And being made perfect." Was that accomplished on the cross? I believe the context from 5-10 would show by resurrection. But my favorite witness would be, Psalms 139:14-16 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully [and] wonderfully made: marvellous [are] thy works; and [that] my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, [and] curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all [my members] were written, [which] in continuance were fashioned, when [as yet there was] none of them. ---That underlined concerns the church.

I believe our salvation has been authored and we shall be saved when resurrected to eternal life. Rom 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. ---- Because he was resurrected from the dead so shall we be.

That would be a timely salvation (deliverance). Rom 10 , Israel is a type of God's elect, God even changed Jacob's name to Israel, Gen 32:28. Paul is talking about children of God by saying that they had a "zeal" of God but not according to knowledge. Paul was giving them a warning that they should give up in trusting in their own righteousness and submitt themselves to the righteousness of God. If they would confess of this sin and repent that they could be saved (delivered from that sin). This is talking about a temely deliverance.

Salvation is a deliverance. Eternal salvation is being delivered from this present evil world. When reading the salvation scriptures, you must descide what you are being delivered from. Most salvation scriptures are pertaining to timely deliverances and not an eternal deliverance.

When and how did he save your soul?

Let's put this thing to bed right now. On May 24th, 2007, I humbled myself under His mighty hands, and He saved an unworthy sinner from his sins. I did not deserve salvation(eternal), but by His love, grace, and mercy, He saved me anyways. This happened at approx 1:30 am in a hospital lab in Paintsville, Ky.

At the cross, Jesus accomplished the atonement. When a sinner believes from the heart that Jesus is Lord, the atonement is then applied, and not before.
