When Does Life And Soul Begin?

I haven't really thought much about whether they are different points, had pretty much always believed that the point at which it is a new life and the point at which it "gains" a soul are the same. But does a one-cell zygote or a blastula have a soul? I don't know. Perhaps when the heart starts beating (which is very early), perhaps with brain waves. Either way, it is still a separate human existence and is worthy of legal protection, I think. Implications, though? Should IUD's be legal? I tend to think so (aside from safety/health issues, though), but that puts me back to square one, doesn't it? Maybe protection should start with implantation. Just thinking out loud.

 

FTR -- I've been doing a lot of thinking outloud on this thread.

BUT I've got to admit that I'm tickled (REALLY!) that those of us with differing views can thoughtfully discuss them.

So, actually, many of the threads on the BB make me think -- either in my head or outloud, but I either have to withdraw or not join because of the tone of the thread.

My heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in this one in keeping the tone cordial.

After more than 50 years of ministry, many years of seminary and Bible Colleges, even university, I honestly don't know when the soul began, if not in eternity past (human terms). If I was born in sin and trespasses, then God did not create my soul, as He is not the author of sin..then...............Hmmmm

Was it at conception, and I inherited Adam's original sin? Or was it implanted sometime after the actual birth?

I read major theologies and come away just as confused as before. I have espoused one view or the other through the years, but the fact remains, in my 80th year, and being a twice-born believer since my 13th year, I just don't know.

Let me know sometime in absolute terms.
