When Flying Was Fun

There was a day when commercial flying was fun and the food, yes there was food served, was quite good. We are downsizing as we are moving sometime this fall to a continuing care community. While going through a box of "stuff" we ran across the menu, yes a printed menu, from a Pan Am flight to Brazil. Here was the main menu:

Hor D'oeuver -- Medallions of Foie Gras

Broiled Filet Mignon with Maitre D'Hotel Butter
Fillets of Flounder Belle-Meuniere
Breast of Chicken Princess
Buttered Garden Vegetables
Parisian Potatoes

Mixed Salad

Selection of Cheese

French Pastry

American Coffee

Orange Pekoe Tea

Yes, men would wear suits and ties; women would wear dresses. Pan Am went out of business many years ago. What year is that menu from?

Crabby sez:
There was a day when commercial flying was fun ------------

When I was a teen, my friends & I would go to the local airport in the evenings/weekends etc to watch the airliners come & go.
Most were DC-3s & an occasional four engine younger sibling, but many times we would walk out as the crew disembarked and talk to them. Many times we would go into the cockpit, sans any crew, and just gaze with awe - never any problems.

Can you just imagine something like that today?????

(Ahh the good ole days. :godisgood: )

Delta refused to let me bring my guitar on the plane, refused to insure it, and did $800 damage to it, without any liability at all. Then threatened to have me arrested if I didn't leave.

Do you think I will ever fly again ? I don't.

Government intervention has ruined it. The let time I can say I honestly enjoyed a flight was to San Diego from Boston, 2000. I used frequent flier miles to get a non-stop to L.A., and bump up to first class. Six hours of heaven. Worth everything I sacrificed for it. Way before T.S.A..

Delta is usually decent, but decided on the second flight of the return part of a round trip flight to suddenly have an issue with a sax. (violin, never a problem)
Their changing policies and thinking instruments are fine in baggage can be quite disconcerting. So is using that word and having them not get it. Makes me want to write them a long, sad....letter. Ha!

As kids, when we flew, we got to go up to the cockpit.....it was GREAT.....feel kids don't have that kind of thrill today, I even was given the officer cap to try on......the things one remember eh?

Flying was fun until the seats were redesigned for double amputee dwarves. There is NO joy in flying today at all.
