Yes you can. You condemn the philosophy.

Just because you say you can't do it doesn't make it so.

Would you have me not condemn Mormonism for fear of insulting mormons???

That would be sin. I think it is sin not to confront and condemn much IFB thinking as well.

The problem here is that IFB thinking is biblical...it is only wrong in your head.

That is why you are the one commiting sin here, by condemning God's people. What we believe is not unbiblical, you just chose to condemn it because you don't like it!!!
You are the culprit here Luke, not IFB.

I condemn you for your hatefulness against people that love Jesus and serve Him daily.

Nowhere, nowhere in the Bible does it tell you to condemn born again Christians.

    Shame on you!!!

No hateful was here- except for any thinking that dims the glory of God in our culture and hinders the progress of the kingdom.

I contend that IFB thinking fits the bill- and is certainly NOT biblical.

As for believing you love Jesus - Jim jones believed that. Would you refuse to condemn his thinking.

I'm still waiting for you to address Aaron's thread about Adam being corrupted before he sinned. If you're really concerned about false teachings, head over there and condemn what Aaron's spewing.

John's point is, I believe, that the Church does not frame doctrine. Only God does that. The doctrine of the Trinity is in the Bible and folk like Ignatius of Antioch understood it. The term 'Trinity' was coined by Tertullian 100+ years before Nicea. The council of Nicea only confirmed what was alredy believed by the huge majority of educated Christians as evidenced by the vote at Nicea: 117 to 3 in favour, if memory serves.

The position of the Church of Rome is that it is the Church that defined the canon of Scripture and the Church that defines true doctrine, including that of the Trinity. The debate is, where does authority come from? Does it come from Mother Church, or does it come from the Holy Spirit through the Scriptures?

If I believed that Church Councils defined doctrine, I would be a Roman Catholic. However, 'All synods or councils since the apostles' times, whether general or particular, may err, and many have erred; therefore they are not to be made the rule of faith or practice, but to be used as a help to both' Westminster Confession of Faith.

Now you are questioning whether I love Jesus?

IFB does not dim the Glory of God, and it is not unbiblical.

Who are you to question my faith?

    Are you God?

You hate IFB, thats what this is all about, it's not about being biblical. As a matter of fact you have never shown one IFB doctrine that is not biblical.

Luke, you cannot condemn other born again christians just because you disagree on doctrine.

Has it crossed your mind that maybe it is your doctrine that is wrong?

Or at least maybe your holier than thou attitude is wrong.

    Dude, you need some help

    This post is reported.

You may get away with calling IFB heretic, but you are not going to get away with questioning my salvation!!!!!!!

Would somebody give me the Reader's Digest version of this thread? Apparently Luke2724 thinks IFB's are hopelessly wrong on many counts because they don't have a lineage that includes the Roman Catholic Church?

Just what is the point of this thread?

Read it again. Luke said "As for believing you love Jesus - Jim jones believed that.

    Believing is the operative word.

Luke posted the OP saying that IFB has no doctrinal roots, that they stole their doctrines from others.

In the course of the thread Luke has called IFB "bastards" and "thieves", said we were unbiblical, heretic, ect, ect,

This all about Luke's hatred for IFB and his quest to insult and ridicule it.

By condemning IFB , he is also insulting and ridiculing the born again Christians that make up IFB

This thread is nothing but a pure hateful vendetta by Luke against IFB.

Oh. So Luke is questioning Seeking's belief that he loves Jesus, as in Seeking may believe he loves Jesus, but he really doesn't. ????

Either way, his post was uncalled for and I believe (oops, there's that word) it breaks BB rules.

Seekingthetruth, do not lose your cool when some call you a heretic or question your salvation, they did the same to Jesus. And those who said Jesus cast out devils by Beelzebub thought they were correct.

Mat 10:25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?
26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

It will come out in the end who is right and who is wrong.

Mat 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

    Don't get upset, be glad.

I did not read the full post but if taken in context, my interpretation of "Believed" means "deluding himself"

    Aha!

Those three dissenters must be those "Anti-Nicene Fathers" our church history whiz was lecturing us about:

I am saying you claiming or thinking you love Jesus does not exonerate you and your beliefs from scrutiny no more than it exonerates Jim jones or anybody else

Or ignore this advice altogether and do the truly Christian thing instead and- examine yourself.

That would be a lot wiser.

No Steve. Yes the doctrine is biblical. I've confirmed that to John numerous times. That's not the point.

And yes the early church did believe in the trinity.

The point is that they had not worked it out any where near as clearly as it was worked out I the first quarter of the fourth century.

These IFB people who believe that their forefathers were never in the catholic church don't get to claim that and depend fully upon the catholic church for their orthodoxy and not be able to point to a single theological contribution these mythical baptists ever made.
